The growth in the inner city neighborhoods Laney Walker and Bethlehem continues..

Neighborhood Redevelopment Continuing In Augusta | ABC 6 WJBF-TV
Development continues in the Laney Walker-Bethlehem redevelopment initiative. Houses are continuing to be built and growth is rising in that area. In the new development of Heritage Pines neighborhood, they have six new houses on Pine Street and four on 11th Street. There is also a proposed development to build town homes on Wrightsboro Road and Twiggs Street, but it doesn't stop there...

Chester A. Wheeler,Augusta Housing and Community Development Department director: "Down at the other end of Wrightsboro Road, we will have a commercial and retail mixed-use note which will have retail on the bottom and housing on the top. We are in the process of finding funding for that."

I'm not sure if this is the proposed retail-mix use development or separate.. Bailey Place: 1210-1214 Wrightsboro rd: 12 residential units: 9 buildings

Computer programming company opens Tuesday | The Augusta Chronicle
A computer-programming company that expanded into Augusta earlier this year is throwing open the doors to its location on Tuesday.

Rural Sourcing Inc. is on the second floor of Enterprise Mill. Eventually, the company will have 100 employees there; it has hired 20 since the January announcement that it was coming to Augusta.

Atlanta-based Rural Sourcing is an arm of Clarkston Consulting. Georgia's labor commissioner and the company's chief executive will be at the site for the grand opening.

Rural Sourcing Inc. holds grand opening for Augusta office | The Augusta Chronicle
Rural Sourcing Inc. held a grand opening Tuesday for its Augusta office in Enterprise Mill, but the company has been at work in the area for awhile.

Since the December 2010 announcement that the Atlanta-based software company would open an office in Augusta, RSI has hired several employees and is already playing host to a Fortune 500 firm this week to “kick the tires,” company CEO Monty Hamilton said.

RSI will be creating 100 IT jobs for the Augusta area by the end of 2012.

So it was revealed earlier last month that Ft. Discovery was sold but that the buyer's name couldn't be released until the deal was finalized at the end of the month...so, has anything new been revealed yet?

Would you be surprised if it was call center related?

I would probably since it's a rather unique space design wise that would likely require significant remodeling for use as a call center, for it's price tag and cost of renovations, I'd imagine that a call center would rather use a custom built space.

Honestly, my best guess for the who the buyer is that it is some 'investor'. Similar to what happened to the WJBF building on Reynolds...someone (a group of investors, an LLC) buying the space and basically sitting on it while they 'decide the best use of the building', or in other words, buying it and not using it and hoping someone offers them more money for it years down the road.

A call center in the Fort Discovery building? That would be one massive call center, and I'm thinking the Fort Discovery property ends up becoming a mix of office and retail..

The salaries at Rural Sourcing range from around $35k to $90k..... These are definitely the type of jobs who attract young professionals downtown.
