What are you guys smoking up there in Alaska anyway? Why would someone want drop black boxes into the search area? And who exactly would be doing such a thing?

I have it on reasonably good authority that the plane's manifest indicated that several thousand pounds of tin-foil was on board. The destination was China...whatever that means to the disappearance I won't say but after all, I'm just sayin'....

Actually, whether these ships, aircraft, and crewman find anything or not is irrelevant. Sure it would be ice, but even if they don't they get to practice in real time the sorts of things which they spend thousand of hours practicing for.

The cost of these searches is sort of fixed. The ships are at sea, the aircraft are flying training missions simply to fly. Using them in real time situations gives that practice some real meaning, and hones the skills and technologies which some day might benefit each and every one of us.

There are many who say our excursions to the moon, or landing on Mars are folly. But the small amount of money that goes into these programs versus the science which is advanced by these efforts is nearly immaterial.

The costs are virtually the same. Let them get some real experience, and hopefully make some individuals life just that much more at ease.

CNN rented a 777 flight simulator for a couple weeks and Casado (pilot) was on quite a bit with Savidge. Savidge is now in Vancouver reporting from an underwater robot thing.

I wonder what flight sim attire is supposed to be?

It was probably hot in there with the camera lights, poor guy. I wish CNN would fire panelist Jeff Wise, he knows nothing about search and recovery.
