Thanks in large put to Erick Fedde who was only up because Zimmerman is hurt...…...AGAIN, the Nats managed to come back from 6-0 down and win in 11 innings, but take nothing away from this game this is still a bad team that is going nowhere as long as Dave Martinez is at the controls.

Martinez did not sign your bullpen staff.

Nats have same issue Mets had with Alderson, and less an excue as the owners of Nats spend. Bad issue, year after year, (Pen in Nats case), FIRE the G.M.

Default 12-17

By winning percentage this is now the 4th worst team in the league ahead of only the Marlins, Orioles, and Royals (who just swept a double header from the East leading Rays). The ONLY saving grace for this team this year is the division beating each other up and so far neither of the Phillies, Mets, or Braves (along with these Nats) can get out of their own way. If they played in the Central for instance they'd be at least 7.5 games behind if everything else played out the way it did, but in all likelihood be a guaranteed 9 games back and probably more likely 12 or 13 back. I mean they've played 2 Central opponents and they are a combined 1-5 so far against the division. And I don't want to hear about injuries anymore, the god damn Yankees are basically playing with their AAA team at the major league level who swept a team on the road, the Nats were lucky to win 2 of 3 at home against. Every team deals with injuries! The good teams plow ahead with the "next man up" mentality, the bad teams make excuses! Excuses are for losers!!!

Split 2 games since the last update. A 1 run win against the Cardinals B team (no Yadi, Goldschmidt, Jose Martinez, or DeJong that game) in which the Nats were lucky to win as the Nats 2 runs came without an RBI; 1 run scored on an error, and another scored on a double play. Then lost 2 of 3 in Philly. As if that wasn't bad enough, the team had plane issues leaving Philly, were stuck on the Philly airport tarmac until about 3 in the morning before returning to the hotel and flew out of Philly this morning to Milwaukee.....oh and by the way they have a game to play tonight. This is about as close to an automatic loss as you can possibly get, bet the house, kids, life savings on the Brewers today (that is, if you are into that sort of thing). And than they finish the road trip with 4 in LA against the Dodgers, so yah this is going to turn out well

If D'Arnaud gets to LA by then, hmmm, you have a shot.

And we are doing our best to catch you, but its quite difficult.

This is comically bad at this point, approaching "Bad News Bears" level of complete ineptitude.

One number stands out 1.17. That is Scherzer's WHIP, up over .2 vs each of last 4 years, at minimum.

8 games under .500 first time since the 2010 season. Onto LA for a 4 game series and this is likely going to get worse before it gets better. So far 3-10 through this 27 game gauntlet schedule. And also very lucky to be 3-10 as they could pretty easily be 0-13. The first win was against the Padres when they trailed 6-0 after the top of the 2nd before Erick Fedde stabilized the Padres and the offense got just enough runs to win; win number 2 was the finale of the Cards series where the Cards sat half of their lineup and they only lost by 1, and the 3rd win in Philadelphia saw the Phillies up 7-2 in the 8th inning before they had a complete implosion.

He really hasn't been bad. He's made 8 starts and he's given up 25 runs so about 3 runs a start which is a quality start. He's had 1 bad start (7 runs [6 earned] in 5 1/3) in Miami, 1 OK start (4 runs in 6 1/3 vs. the Mets) 1 good start that he didn't throw enough innings for a quality start (2 runs, 1 earned in 5 innings vs. Phillies) and his other 5 starts have all been "quality" starts; 3 runs or fewer in 6 innings or more.
His first start of the year March 28 against the Mets he gave up a solo home run in the 1st, and the bullpen allowed an inherited runner to score in the 8th, but the offense scored 0 runs.
Game 2 that aforementioned April 2 start vs. the Phillies. He left the game trailing 2-0 but the bullpen allowed 6 runs after he departed the game.
Game 3. The infamous lead 12-1 after top of the 7th game and need to bring in your closer to finish the win.
Game 4. Allowed 3 runs in 8 innings, finished with a no decision after they gave up the go ahead run in the 9th. They had the winning run on 3rd in the 8th with 2 outs, and had the bases loaded with 1 out in the 9th and couldn't score. If you pitch 8 innings and allow 3 runs I'm sorry but you deserve to win that game!
Game 5 was his worst start of the year he deserved to lose that one, no questions asked.
Game 6. 2 runs in 7 innings vs. the Padres. I talked about this one on here earlier. Had a 2-0 lead, and gave the 2 runs back, but once again 2 runs in 7 innings if you don't get the win as the pitcher, as a team you definitely deserve it. Wasn't meant to happen as Doolittle served up the game-winning home run in the 9th.
Game 7. Allowed 3 runs in the first inning, but then finished his remaining 6 innings scoreless. With the makeshift lineup that played that game with Soto & Rendon out injured, Scherzer had to be almost perfect as 1 run would be the game, but that's still a quality start and Scherzer at least kept them in it, with the bullpen crew adding 2 runs to the Cards tally in the 8th.
Game 8. After getting stuck on an airport tarmac for 8 hours and flying out that morning Scherzer gave them 6 innings of 1 earned run ball (2 runs overall). Was in line for the win after a Eaton homer in the 7th broke a 2-2 tie but then in the bottom half the Nats went all Bad News Bears and started throwing the ball all over the diamond in an eventual loss.
In his 8 starts, the offense scored 3 runs or fewer in 7 of those 8 starts. In 7 of those 8 starts Scherzer has left with the lead/or game tied in 4 of those 8 start; in the other 4 he left trailing he left trailing by 1 or 2 runs in 2 of them. Tell me how Scherzer has been bad again?? If this offense could hit their way out of a paper bag they'd probably be 5-3, 6-2 maybe even 7-1 in his 8 starts instead of 1-7 like they are and this season would be a whole lot different.

Did not say bad. Pointed out a rise in WHIP to pedestrian levels, vs his last 4 years which were Top Ten in league , all starters with say 175 innings plus, each year.
