year PPG average
1 28.2
2 22.7 (injured)
3 37.1
4 35
5 32.5
6 33.6
7 31.5
8 30.1
total 250.7
divided by 8 seasons
31.3 ppg over that 8 year period.
he also only scored 19000 in his 1st 8 seasons (this does not include playoff games basketball ref doesnt offer totals on playoff games just average) and he played in 589 games which equals 32.2 ppg. either way your 38ppg is way off.
Maybe my total pts are wrong... 22775 is what i got. I'll concede that...
And its 32.3 with 19K.... either way his avg is way higher than Lebron's
250.7 total. Divide that by 8 seasons, the AVERAGE is 31.34.
Are we really having this conversation??This is elementary math, man.
Actually you cant average averages but that being said if your numbers are correct the avg has to be below 38; which in all honesty would make sense for Jordan - That also being said Lebron has so far to go to be in the same discussion with Jordan - eh how about win One, let alon 6 championships
This thread is so pre-mature. Nothing obvious and it is not even close to time...

Well that's pretty much how we arrive at career averages. If you're so inclined go on NBA.com, look up Jordan's stats, take his scoring average for all 15 seasons, add it up and then divide by 15, and let me know if you get anything else but 30.1. By the way, what mathematical law says you can't average averages??
I honestly can't believe we're even having this discussion on how to calculate his scoring average. Seriously??
ok one last thing about the PPG average, the game was different back then, teams averaged more points. case in point in 1992 the bulls averaged 110 ppg. a change in style, scoring rate, and defense underwent a bit of a makeover over the years. the jordan years where IMO a transition between the "showtime" era and the "defense wins championships" era brought on by teams like the 1999 spurs. (before i hear it, no the spurs did not invent the defense 1st but the 1999 spurs where arguably the best defensive team in the history of the nba.)
