Historically, the Dow has consistently performed better with a Democrat in charge than with a Republican in the White House....nobody really understands why, but that's they way it has been for 100 years!

Dow under George W Bush; 10,860 down to 8,279 by the time he left Office (Net loss -23.7%)

Dow under Obama so far; 8,279 to 12,971 (up 56.7%) as of close today…

I LIKE making money just for being patriotic enough to buy US stocks....don't you

Just think, if we had a one party state (or for that matter, a one party nation) we could REALLY get things done! Yeah! That's the spirit! Down with the GOP! YEAH MAN! /sarc

This is because I think we need to raise taxes a bit, I believe in equal marriage rights for homosexuals, I am generally anti-war when unprovoked. I am not irrationally Pro-Israel, I believe the Environment is extremely important and that we should invest in Cleaner and Greener energy, I believe in the Legalization or decriminalization of certain drugs, mainly Marijuana, I am a STRONG advocate for Universal healthcare, and I think we should give the Homeless a helping hand so they don't die on the streets. I am also an advocate for stricter gun laws in certain areas of the US. I am pro-choice. I am on the fence about the Death penalty though. I see why people would want it when we have people like Holmes running around. but I think too many innocent people are put on death row and that it is more expensive than putting them in jail for life without the possibility of parole.

I agree with Conservatives on some things like less wasteful spending and being responsible. that's about it though.

I'm not a Democrat ... but I have yet to see a conservative I'd vote for ... ever.

The real question is .highnlite's favorite: what has any conservative ever done for the good of this nation?
Now, before any of you go off with naming famous Republicans -- such as Lincoln -- note that, by conservative what is meant is a psychological condition vs liberal psychology. Historically the two parties have changed places, with Democrats having been the conservatives and Republicans the more liberal.

In current politics, the GOP has gone from conservative to ultra-conservative bat-sh*t nuts ... the Democrats are pretty much centrists ... overall our nation is running much more conservative than ever before -- including Obama's policies. So this talk of Obama being a socialist and such is beyond nonsense.

California is one of only a handful of states still trying to stay moderately liberal. And for all the mistakes liberals have made, nationally and state, at least their intentions are to constantly try to move forward with changing times to improve society. Conservatives, by definition (look it up youselves!) are trying to "return" to past policies or status quo. You can't go back. And what is it about the status quo of the past decade or so that is worth preserving?

What have conservatives EVER done for this state and nation?

They are more tech savvy, more truthfully informed, and spend most of their time on the internet instead of watching TV or the local news which is republican leaning on all channels. In 2008 for the first time the number of registered democratic voters outnumbered republican voters, however the turnout at the actual polling stations didn't reflect that. I hope this year that the voter turnout and elections will reflect that.
So people aren't truthfully informed unless they think just like you?

If you cannot even comprehend it, then why did you even bother to post about to support your world view? Great, that's all we needed, another partisan fool posting on this board.

What presidents haven't spent more than the previous? And what did Obama spend money on? Uh, trying to stop the carnage caused by the previous conservative administration. Furthermore, an enormous chunk of what Obama's administration has spent was committed by G.W. Bush prior to Obama taking office.

Anyway: the problem isn't with how much money is spent ... it's how much money is spent relative to:
1. revenue
2. realistic expectations / projections of future benefit and revenue developed for money invested.

All businesses and governments and even individuals borrow at times to invest in their futures. The days of saving up and paying cash for life are long past (unfortunately) ... this is the way of survival now: leveraging and investing by borrowing to create infrastructure and future revenue.

And, right now, to save our sorry arses.
