I worked for a friend as an author escort off and on for years, which brought me in the orbit of quite a few celebrities. A sampling:
Ali MacGraw - Delightful! It was like we were old friends; we never came up for air. So chic, and more beautiful in person. She was unfailingly charming to everyone on what turned out to be a long and tiring day.he
Sidney Poitier - So charming, almost hypnotically so.
Mickey Mantle - Shockingly rude to everyone we encountered. Hundreds turned out for him, and had waited for six hours in some cases; he abruptly left about halfway to go meet a local drinking buddy. Made me stop and get him a six-pack on the way, then told me that I was his type with his 'mistress'(or so I inferred) sitting next to him.
Maya Angelou - All I'll do here is validate what others have said on this thread.
Anne Rice - Sweet with a dry sense of humor. Totally appreciates her fans.
Lauren Bacall - Always civil, but wasn't about to let you forget that she was a movie star.
Ricky Gervais - As funny as you would imagine.
Ellen Burstyn - Painfully shy, but sweet.
Mick Jagger - Very friendly, with a rather endearing goofiness about him.
Julia Child - Absolutely hysterical; a total ham.
Also had an 'interlude' with Eric Roberts at a bonfire party in high school. He was so hot! I might have lost my virtue that night if it hadn't been for curfew.
I've met a lot but no one was ever rude.
I used to tour with bands as a merch girl, mostly with the beastie boys and other grand royal artists. They were the best. Maynard from Tool was cool to me but he treats groupies like garbage and we'd have to deal with crying girls who were pumped and dumped.
I sat next to J Lo at Hamilton and she and Casper were beyond nice. I met/saw so many celebs at Hamilton. I'm not star struck so I usually get better interactions with them.
Back in either 89 or 90, it was such a long time ago, I met George Harrison. I was bartending at The Maui Prince hotel. I remember it was the end of my shift (day) and you had to leave by walking through the lounge and out onto an outside walkway. As I was walking someone behind me said "Excuse me" loudly. I turned around and it was George Harrison. I knew he was in our lounge, another worker had pointed him out to me.
He then asked if I knew where the bathrooms were. They weren't in the lounge they were off the outside hallway. I showed him, he said thanks.
He seemed fairly normal. None of the other staff had anything bad to say about him.

I can believe that. Back in the mid 70's Mantel was sports marshal at our local festival. He was drunk the entire time and disappointed everyone. Actually other than the parade and sports breakfast ( which he did both drunk BTW ) Mantel spent his time at a local bar and kept hitting on the waitresses.
Marlo Thomas is a sweetheart. Just like her father. One of Danny best friends was my great uncle (Last name also Thomas, never found out if we are related at all)..I recently ran across pictures from my cousin's first communion. Young Marlo & Danny sitting there, all smiles. I never got to meet her father, but ive heard nothing but amazing things & she's wonderful (Phil & their boys as well)..

Neil Diamond - Before he entered the hallway, everyone was instructed to face the wall and not look at him. What more can you say about that?...
That's been going on for quite some time with celebs.
There was a genuine article stating that fact and naming names about a decade ago.
You can still Google now and at least get some more current names from random posters.
Barbara Streisand was mentioned in the above article I read stating that none of the crew was to give eye contact while she was rehearsing.
Tom Cruise was also mentioned.
According to some crew members, he had a memo passed at least by the time of Mission Impossible III, stating any violations of the rule would cause termination of the crew member.
He also had a white light-filtering overhead shade, or complete upside-down U-shaped tunnel connected from the top of the doorway of his Star Waggon Trailer to the top of the stage door, either to control the lighting of his face in case someone snuck a picture of him and/or thwart unauthorized overhead "Slop-a-rots-see" photos.
Some stars won't even allow their make-up or hair stylists to talk with them while in the chair or otherwise.
Nicest= The Whole Taylor Family ,James,Kate,Liv,Hugh and all the kids and wives.Harry Carson and Phil Simms of the NY Giants.
Nastiest= Lawrence Taylor (NY Giants),John Denver. Went to see JD at Merriweather Post in MD and we got there and hour before the concert was to start .The Mrs was eight months pregnant and as we were getting ready to go in the heavens opened up and with rain and lightning, stayed in the car till it was over ,then went to to go to our seats which were 5th row up, two on the isle from the stage. WE were not alowed to sit and he had just walked on stage,....no late 's allowed seated till the third song by "orders " of Mr Denver. So we stayed till it was done but as he walked off stage ,we were all standing so I went over to the edge of the stage and got real mad with some people ,his manager ended up calling me at home and I let him have it all so. I love his music but I never went to another show of his or bought another record and still won't.It was over 34 years ago.
What's the deal w/ eye contact? What a preposterous idea to ban someone of eye contact.
