Only time will tell... but on the face of it this sounds like bald fear or simple paranoia.
Completely agree!

There are groups planning to come to Charlotte to be as disruptive as possible.

There WILL be violence if certain people have their way.

The police WILL be busy and very necessary.

I welcome each and every one of those officers.

Anyone worried about there being too many here during the convention is either paranoid or not understanding the mentality of groups like Move On.

I don't think you understand the mentality of groups like Move On.... at a DNC rally.

Yes, I get that they are serious democratic party supporters - I also think they will be trying to incite others there who are not.

Ignorance and stupidity is almost always hidden behind a curtain of personal attacks.

I don't understand why people have to be so bent out of shape over others "paranoid" views. Do you ever stop to think that some of us may have more negative experiences with police than positive ones?

Oh, but that must mean we're criminals, right? The police would never just harass someone who didn't do anything.

Forgive us for not blindly trusting 20-30 year old's with a badge.

You don't know that. Nobody does.

Yes, there is a high probability that groups will show up to be disruptive but right now, the police are just assuming "said group" is conspiring to rain on Obama's parade. Thus making them... Oh my!! conspiracy theorists!!! I think you're paranoid, Mountains. You should seek professional help.

How about that turn around on logic?

James... I have to agree with you on not trusting the 20 to 30 year old's with a badge. However, my lack of trust is reserved for actual events that have happened that make me think "something doesn't sound right"

When a kid shoots himself while handcuffed in the back of a car after being patted down twice it makes me go hmmm...
When officers shoot a guy 40 times and he doesn't have a gun...
When an officer has 3 wives who disappear or all die by drowning in a tub...

However, I also don't think officers are going to get me or turn this place upside down and infringe on all our rights just because the DNC is in town. I also don't live inside 277 and if I did I would probably be a little uncomfortable with seeing the police on every corner.

I'm sorry Loves but I think this deserves a chuckle.

Lol, that wasn't a personal attack, it's the truth...relax man, no one's gonna take your gun rack. I'm not getting bent out of shape over paranoid views, just having a little fun and teasing. There are good cops and bad cops....been harassed by cops in my day, but far too many ethical, hard-working LEOs to worry about a few rotten apples.

Scenario: Car breaks down (forgot to put side arm in the car) and it's late evening/night and you are walking up to a corner solo with some sketchy characters approaching...would you care if a good cop or bad cop pulled up to make sure you were ok.....at that instant in time it's the more the merrier (cops)...right?....nah almost forgot, you big bad J...kung fu specialist.

I kid, understandably, all of the badge presence might raise an eyebrow but most law abiding citizens are ok with it and aren't really that concerned.

Update: Just received this in my email-

Quote:
"All Residents:

Below is a link to a website that is to assist residents, business owners, and commuters who travel in and out of the "the loop" during the DNC. Please refer to the this website first for any questions you may have. Be sure to review the .pdf file "New: Security and Transportation Plan for the 2012 Democratic National Convention"

Home

Building/Garage Access:
Due to the pedestrian restrictions, access to the building will have to be accessed by vechicle through the Time Warner Cable Arena Vechicle Checkpoint #3. Please keep this in mind and expect delays. It is highly recommended that you have identification, your garage opener and fob during this week at all times. Beginning Sunday (Sep 2) and continuing through Thursday (Sep 6), residents must show photo ID and confirm your your Unit address with the Courtside Security Staff to enter the garage. Please note that entry will be granted ONLY for those resident names on the Resident List. Guests must be accompanied by an authorized Resident – i.e. someone whose name is on the Resident List kept by Security Staff AND who possesses an active/operable garage opener.

***Please contact REMOVED to ensure your current information is on file – including name and contact information for all owners and occupants.

Balconies:
Use of balconies is not prohibited. However, the US Secret Service will be watching the building and the presence of any type of weapon (or anything resembling a weapon) or the act of dropping or throwing any object from a balcony would be ill-advised. A tri-pod or telescope, for example, would certainly attract unwanted attention from the US Secret Service. Any type of visual display (like a banner) is prohibited.

Garage Exit Route:
LEFT (east) on 6th to Davidson, and then 2 options:
1) LEFT (north) on Davidson, then LEFT (west) on 9th
2) RIGHT (south) on Davidson, then LEFT (east) on 5th
NOTE: Cars will not be allowed to turn right when leaving the garage.

Vehicle Checkpoint for Residents:
6th and Alexander – beginning Monday night (Sep 3) and continuing through Thursday morning (Sep 6)
NOTE: A portion of 6th Street will be used as a 2-way street

No Parking Available Outside the Garage:
No on-street parking will be allowed and all nearby parking lots are unavailable (reserved for use by others).

Deliveries:
Commercial deliveries will be routed to a checkpoint at 900 North Davidson. Restaurant deliveries (i.e. takeout food) are allowed, but will take significantly longer than normal due to vehicle and pedestrian restrictions. Mail and package deliveries may also be delayed."
So glad I'm getting out of here. The reason I put the banner in bold is because I'm curious whether that is a building policy or USSS policy?

@Above, I'm not a gun owner. My concern is the first amendment in this case. And I am a law abiding citizen. As for your little scenario, I'm not against police presence. I just think a lot of this worry over "violent groups" is completely stupid and is based on nothing but fear.
