Funny people think a rainstorm is cause for safety concerns. I guess all those Panthers players, staff, and their fans that still go in rain are at risk. Maybe they should call those games too
You'll notice if a storm with lightning moves in during an NFL game, they suspend play and move everyone inside. Well, if a thunder storm came in during the speech, they would have had to interrupt it, move them into the concourse, wait around for it to end and then resume when safe. Kind of kills the mood. Especially if strong winds come by and tear the place up a bit. Makes for good TV too.
And again, by moving the speech indoors, the DNC kept the focus on the speech. They didn't leave themselves open to questions the GOP could have raised about putting 60000+ people at risk.
I turned to the USC Syracuse game and its delayed due to weather. Syracuse plays in a dome but moved the game to METLife stadium for NYC exposure... the DNC made the right call.
My question is related to the cost. How much money was spent on getting te panther arena ready.? I know they worked 24/7 for at least 2 weeks and paid buses to haul fans too.. Next question is just who is going to pay for all this lost effort? PLEASE DONT LET IT BE THE LOCAL TAXPAYERS..... We will never really know

And today's Pathers/Bucs game in Tampa was delayed because of... lightning...in the area.
If they would have took a risk and did it and then had to stop and evacuate the arena the press would have had a field day and the republicans would have something to use to attack Obama as if he caused the mess. If one person were killed by lightening it could have ruined his re-election after the repubs put their "spin" on it so why take the risk if you dont have to. The format they had looked good on tv and they had control of that so just stayed where they were.

+1 - look how fast (it seemed like minutes) the GOP jumped on the DNC for moving the event indoors, dismissing out of hand the consideration for safety.

look how fast they were at spreading rumors of busing people in... like it's not a common thing for large events. LOL...

And all those tough guys left the field.
Lightning around stadium. Heavy Rain on Raymond James. Flashback: 7pm-10pm DNC... Clear Skies. The full day maybe at most had 15 minutes of rain, just rain.

And the DNC officials could have guaranteed this on Wednesday - the day they had to make the call - how? Honestly, it's been stated several times in this thread they had to call it as early as possible, and judging by the previous 2 days' weather (LOTS of rain and some lightning) plus the forecast, they made the safest choice.
