I believe that spirit + body = living soul. It makes sense to me and is from Genesis so ...
I know there is a body and if you call what animates us a spirit then without both you are not alive. The dead are not animated so they are missing something, the spark of life.
Yeah, that's my understanding, too. A spirit is simply a "life source." It is when the spirit enters a body that the body becomes a "living soul," and when the spirit leaves the body that the body dies. I don't see a "soul" as a separate entity the way some people do. I see it is the result of a spirit inhabiting a body.
Adam was still standing and was able to reason with God after he ate...did he not? He physically died 930 years later. Genesis 5:5
So I don't think man lost his spirit as much as death became the norm where as they had only known life.
Leave the dead to bury their dead kinda makes it sound like the dead bodies are not useful anymore but that the spirit has moved on... IMO
But yes Adam did not physically die at that moment... but we also have no idea how old he was when he was told he would die. Perhaps he was in Eden for 930 years and so he actually did die that day..

Valid question kat...but I take into consideration that Adam only begat after the expulsion from the garden. Again that's my opinion since we won't know until...and will not push it as the truth. I believe that by taking a close look at God's word... instead of just blindly following a set doctrine (Luke 17:12-19)...makes God smile already...I like that
Never, ever before has June done a "mod cut" --ever-- in ANY of the three Religion Forums just to say that she has rarely seen a thread make it this far, without a single deletion needed, a single insult, or for that matter, a single rudely worded post.
~~This is like some sort of surreal moderator "breath of fresh air" and for that, JUNE COMMENDS YOU GUYS!!!!
KUDOS!!!!
(Okay, carry on....That's all June needed to say....)

I hear people sometimes speak of spirit and soul as if the two were synonyms, and I hear other people say we are made up of body, spirit and soul. Do you see the spirit and the soul as separate and, if you do, could you explain what you believe the difference to be between them?
I'll express my view very simply;
The soul is to the spirit, as soil is to seed
or
The soul is to the spirit, as a radio is to radio waves
