Thank God for his Grace...But I don't use it as a license either!

1Jo 2:1 My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the Father in our defenseā€“Jesus Christ, the Righteous One.

The keyword that stuck out to me in that verse is IF. It says IF, not WHEN. In otherwords it's not something expected but a safety net IN CASE we do.

That's my take anyhow.

Red face Once Saved Always Saved

"...will also make the way of escape" (1 Corinthians 10:13). God will offer it, but it is up to the Christian to take it and not yield to sin. Too, look at all the "if's" in 1st John, "If we say..If we walk in the light...If we confess our sins" There are just too many passages in the New Testament warning us that we could lose our salvation. The answer: study the Word, pray, live the life Christ would have us do, help those around you, share the Gospel with the lost, walk in the light, reprove error, stand up for Jesus, be humble, love peace! It ain't always easy, but with God, all things are possible (Matthew 19:26). Peace.

IMO, "once saved always saved" was a manmade commercial to tempt people to join a particular denomination..The martketing is top notch..Converts embraced the idea that if they "got saved" they were pretty much guaranteed to be "home free" on judgement day...

Agreed,
Butts in seats, bigger buildings, bigger egos...
The caveat is that if you stop supporting or attending then you were never really saved to begin with.

Business plan, not God's plan...

Good points! I agree with cgraham's thot that if we look at all the instructions to walk in the light, endure, "put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand", "be vigilant, etc, it looks like there is some effort involved on our part to not be found wanting on the day of judgement.

In my bible class I read either in (Timothy, Peter I think), that to be truly saved we have to first accept Jesus as our Saviour.

But, it said that after that . . . if we have been truly saved, than our actions will reflect it . . . and we will truly repent, and our old self/ways die, and that our actions will reflect this.

A friend of mine said, that once you accept Jesus as Your Saviour, that is all you need to be truly saved.

My question is that, if we accept Jesus as our Saviour, and have faith in him, but we continue in our sin's without truly repenting, if our actions show that we are not behaving as Christians or walking in the ways that Jesus explains we should . . . . like forgiving eachother, not holding grudges, being generous to the poor, honoring mother and father . . . are we truly saved?

I am confused about this . . . as my dear husband was saved as a teen, but has no relationship now with God, doesn't acknowledge him, yet he believes that Jesus is the Son of God but nothing more. In fact, he asks me and the kids to pray about this or that . . . . and when I try to guide him gently toward Jesus . . . he gets annoyed.

If I refer to a scripture with the kids he's find, but if it's directed to him, he tells me to stop preaching . . .

Help me on this, I am sort of confused about this as well. Blessings,
well just let me say this, just gentle stroke your husband, but more so continue to pray to God for his help, the word say if we plant the seed God will give the increase, the prayer of the righteous man avail s much.also think about this let your light shine, that men may see your good works. be encourage God see and knows all,
stay in his face
