I'm with you there. There are far too many posters on this particular subforum whom only deal in stereotypes, generalizations, falsehoods, and down right stupid **** when a city doesn't meet what they want...and then try to pass it off as "intelligent dialogue".

i don't know what to say about someone who doesn't consider Houston a city.
That is completely false-Please state facts and not opinions.

The last two I have a hard time believing. No way Phill beats out DC, SF and Boston for personal income.
You were so tired of hearing about Houston;Yet, you decided to make a thread about it??? People don't care about Houston much; yet it gained over million people last decade???
Quite frankly I don't understand how anyone is tired of it considering the place gets no type of recognition or attention outside of CD. People in Philadelphia are obviously suffering from insecurity since they always feel the need to try and compare there city to Houston or Atlanta and spew such hatred and ignorance toward these places.
You want to be mad?? Be mad at NYC and DC. It's not our fault your city became a dump and couldn't keep up with the other cities in the north. Now you guys feel you have to prove yourselves by always trying to prove to us how big and important you guys are. Philadelphia isn't on anyones radar down here. Face it; Philly is at the bottom of the barrel up there and falls short compared to the other major cities up there. No need to look for competition in the south; just realize your place and keep it moving.
Your only purpose of creating this thread was to tear down the city of Houston once again and attempt to make Philadelphia look good. This thread needs to be closed because it is of no importance and the OP is just starting up BS.
Whoa!!!! Here we go with this BS.. I'm from Philly and I know it's shortcomings as well as it's positives and am not in evnvy of it being between DC & NYC just like most in our town don't really care or talk about any of the two in our conversations outside of sports rivalries or whatever.
New York's always gonna be New York and it's cool living an hour or so away and always nice for a day trip or weekend. That's about it, people who desire to be there just usualy up & move. Doesn't take much.
As far as Houston.. Nothing against it but Philadelphians don't even "Think About the place"... ALL OF YOU New York & DC nut riders seem to feel YA'LL have something to PROVE to them..
We've been here for over 300 years and not really all that concerend about anyone else..DAMM sure NOT Houston in the ways that you think. Now get over yerself cowboy and have yerself some texmex and kick yer boots up.

Point taken!
Philly is a cool city but I can't get with the club music and big dudes with Philly beards dancing on the floor to that sh&t with capris on. What's up with that? It goes against the go hard Philly image that I grew up with?
Its possible he/she meant income per capita, in which that would be correct as those three are amongst the highest out of the large metros.
Per capita yes; though then you can also adjust for COL etc. it all get complicated and when adjusted all are close on a percapita and perform very well on the national scale as does Houston
the one that I think is hardest to compare is GDP as most of this never makes in to the local economy though having a large GDP is a positive correlation but very difficult to compare at a MSA level from that aspect Income generated is a better measure of monetary flow into the area, though with certain limitations as well as you noted
I don't hate Houston. I don't know why it has a chip on its shoulder, but that seems to be a Texas thing, not necessarily a Houston thing. I live in a city a lot like Houston, Atlanta. For some reason, Houston boosters seem to hate Atlanta on this board, but the hate is not reciprocated.
I'd probably like Houston for a lot of the same reasons I like Atlanta. It's a suburbs+ kind of place -- ideal for raising a family and still enjoying some of the amenities of city life. As much as I love cities like NYC, Chicago, Boston and Philadelphia, I won't raise my daughter in that kind of environment. At her age, a good quality of life is having a front yard in a house on a cul de sac where neighborhood kids can gather and play. I can't really find that in Philly (or if I could, not at a price I can afford), but I can in Atlanta and Houston.
Houston annoys me when it tries to be something it's not -- as does Atlanta for the record. Houston is not a city, city -- or I don't want to call it. It's like obscenity -- we all know it when we see it. Sunbelt "cities" just don't quite qualify. If you have to drive everywhere, you're not in a city. As for Houston's population, come on ... get real... it's 500+ square miles... there are a number of 500+ square mile areas in the U.S. that match the population of Houston.
Same thing for me.. I'm recently new to Atlanta and neither inner city LA or Philly had that offering. Atlanta does as I'm sure Houston does too. Plenty of my friends in LA were tired of trying to figure out "Should I put out $300K for the 70 year old 1200 sq. ft. home with the lime green kitchen & 1970's paneled walls" OR " $350K for the 1800 sq. ft. home with decent sized back yard in a really rough area"?
Most chose Texas or Arizona. My children love it in the burbs and are thriving here and are only about 20 minutes from downtown.
