What does fashion have to do with quality of life? Any fashionable item from any city around the world is available to buy anywhere else. Business workers dress more sharply in NY, while ordinary people off work dress more attractively in LA (too fashion conscious for my taste). Likewise, publishers don't have much to do with quality of life, though you could argue that the presence of great writers does.
Again, nobody goes to Broadway musicals except a few social climbers who want to impress people, and some others I mentioned above. It doesn't have much to do with quality of life for most people. And as noted by others, great plays are found all around the world - whether some are better than others is a matter of personal preference. LA has at least as many, but more spread out while most of NYC has them concentrated in downtown Manhattan.
The California art scene is more vibrant and interesting than the New York State art establishment.
Getting away from snob appeal, there's no doubt that California has more family and kid oriented entertainment and things to do. Quality of life isn't just for rich people and social climbers.
Fashion doesn't have to do with quality of life it was just a point that was taken off topic, as for ppl dressing sharper off work in LA I don't think so you ever go on GQ.com look at their street style galleries they have every week nobody dresses better than Manhattanites in the country on or off work.
Of course the California art scene is better than NY states art scene, the Cali art scene has LA and the Bay and everything in between. As far as individual cities go NYC art scene is both very establishment and high class in Manhattan and more vibrant, interesting, and young in Brooklyn and Queens.
I 100% agree California does have better family and kid oriented attractions as well.
If L.A. is like this right now, then imagine where L.A. will be 25 years in the art world. It's an exciting time to be in L.A. right now because this city is 'maturing'.
LA is maturing and thats a good thing we need more cities in this country to be as cultured, but at the same time NYC went through this 100 years ago and is continuing to grow. Brooklyn, Queens, and upper Manhattan are going through a renaissance like period culturally so NYC is still maturing as well.
No, but Bernie Madoff by himself hurt way more people around the world than anything some two-bit gang of kids in LA ever could.
That's not what the crime stats show.

Please stop embarrassing yourself.
Being a Mecca would mean that LA is dominant in the country in all areas of culture such as theater, balet, opera, publishing or journalism. Is it? Is LA's theater on par with Broadway? Is LA Times on par with New York Times?
I even question that California's art scene is better. Here's some information just from Syracuse: Syracuse Arts Directory
Buffalo has an underrated arts scene and many cities and small towns offer some form of art ranging from ballet, live theater to symphonies and orchestras. That's just for Upstate NY, let alone NYC. Same for family friendly things, as there are places in Upstate NY people have never heard of. Considering that cost of living in many Upstate NY areas is at or below the overall national average, there are things to enjoy for a wide range of people.

ITA!! Buffalo has a pretty big arts scene, so I was surprised to see it even suggested as otherwise

You could say that about many cities in California as well. L.A. more than holds its own against New York as a cultural capital, and SF is top 5 in the U.S. as well. Even San Diego has its own scene:
Funny how these fringe arts are given monstrous importance (and let's face it, thats what they are at this point) while film and television are completely glossed over. Citizen Kane was conceptualized and filmed in L.A.? Big deal. Casablanca? E.T.? Culturally insignificant next to Cats
