Are you talking about NYS or California?

I've lived in both states, and loved them both. Quality of life is about the same. the only thing that Ca really beats NYS at is the Weather.

NY state is in a much better location with easy access to neighboring states and Canada which could be an important aspect to some.

Also, public school systems overall in the Northeast are better.

Well that's right, kram, you've finally hit on something where NY is actually better than California: the public schools (at least the upstate ones are, the ones in NYC are kind of ghetto aside from some magnet high schools).

Pretty much everything else California gets the nod.

Besides weather and that is even subjective, what else does California get the nod in? I believe that NY gets the nod in terms of crime rate too. http://os.cqpress.com/rankings/2010/...kings_2010.pdf

My family is from Brooklyn and relocated Upstate (like countless others).

There are a lot of people upstate that are from the city for better real estate options, so I dont think that qualifies as hillbillies. Do you?

Upstate is about 8 million people, its not exactly Montana. There are 4 cities with metro pops of a million each. Two state parks that take up a lot of uninhabitable space and valleys.

No excuse for the ignorance. They have geography books at the Public Library, boss. Use them.

..and btw, my vote goes to California. No part of NY, city or state, compares to Northern California.

Am I less of a New Yorker for saying that? If you think so, you can go **** yourself.

NYC has a better quality of life than all of California.

California has a better quality of life than NY as a whole for right now.

However, California needs to address its illegal immigration problems (it's bankrupting the state as we can see), and NY has a lot of old wealth established in its state that won't be leaving any time soon.

So NY is in a better position economically.
