Dense = high population per sq mile, urban = walkable environment where a car isn't necessary and everything is at your finger tips. So while LA is dense sprawl it is still not the same as being is a dense urban center. Makes sense ?Remember that. You are naming a sub-section outside the core of the city. The core of the city is where density matters, not some sub-section neighborhood outside of LA . Again, that should be common sense, apparently it's that hard for people to figure out.
It doesn't seem like you know enough about L.A. to be able to talk about its "core". If you are referring to "downtown" only, you are mistaken. The core of L.A. actually runs from downtown pretty much on Wilshire/Sunset all the way to the West-Side/Santa Monica.

Los Angeles is too spread out, and it's main core isn't very happening or vibrant I wouldn't say.

Los Angeles is a suburban city, its urban center (downtown) is not it's most vibrant thing, it's metro is.

With that also comes bad traffic, bad air, having to use a car everywhere, more headaches.. etc..

Miami is so much more fun, been to both, no contest.
LA is the more urban city. Miami may be smaller, but LA is more dense, and it's more dense over a LARGER scale than Miami.

The actual city of Miami is the one with skyscrapers, and big buildings, just incase you didn't know
You misunderstand me. The focus of Miami is the metro area, not the downtown. The metro area includes Miami Beach. It's no different from LA in this regard.

I think Downtown Miami is underrated, but it's hardly the focus.

Miami is underrated in general.

When will people of City-Data get a freakin' clue that some of us like cities that are unique, eclectic, beautiful, energetic, and fun. Miami's all that and more, it's about time people started treating it better than a second class city on this forum-- probably the most underrated city on City-Data (along with Dallas & Boston) given it's notoriety & allure in actual life.

If any city is being underrated, it's Los Angeles. We're talking about one of the cultural capitals of world, one of the most diverse cities in the world.

Check the poll. Miami is winning confortably.

This poll was stared 2 years ago on this forum, a time period when Los Angeles was indeed an underrated city-- one of which that took a shin deep beating from people like Ghost all day long for it's supposed "flaws".

Los Angeles on this forum no longer has that reputation. Go ahead and look for some of the regular posters on this forum today that say it's one of their top 5 favorite cities now-- when just in 2010 it wasn't even their top 10. Ironically more people started liking Los Angeles when more Los Angeles posters joined the site, leaving little in the way of trashing the place without consequences.

Just goes to show you how much people go off stereotypes, either that or people are being dishonest about how they feel towards these places in general.

Today, Miami's the underrated one. This is a rare poll for it to win, because I've seen the place lose to the likes of Orlando before, Orlando!

I agree LA gets plenty of respect on here (except for one crazy Miami poster). Sometimes I think it is misunderstood but generally people respect it, maybe more on this board then in real life though.

Well, that isn't right, lol. I've seen Miami take it in the chin a few times. The skyline batte with Chicago was bloody. Understandable though--it's Chicago. I've seen it win a few too, usually at L.A.'s expense (nightlife, beaches, this poll). No biggie though. I'd much rather see L.A. lose to another underdog city like Miami than the usual suspects.
