Outside of the C-D forum, Miami is well respected. The type of people that post negatively of Miami in the forums are usually from areas like Seattle, Austin, Portland, and Minneapolis.

What makes you say people from these specific regions don't like Miami?

How many times do I have to explain myself. Dense SPRAWL (LA) and dense urban (Miami) is not the same!

They're culturally opposites of Miami.

Austin/Portland/Seattle/(to a lesser extent)Minneapolis are more of hipster hotbeds. These cities have people that grew up in either some podunk town or some big city they couldn't handle (or were just born natives there), they moved there for the social factors (and outdoorsy environment-- the granola, Marijuana, liberal, 30K, trustfund babies environment). Miami is all about stature, energy, and your personal finances and who you know. A city like Austin is militarily more involved in social aspects, people there will look down on you for not being a "cultural norm" to the area.

There's a vibe in Austin, that they don't like "invaders" people from California, Houston, Dallas. Same with Seattle, hence the hostility and personality definitions like "Austitude". In these cities it's more about where you align yourself politically, what your beliefs are and how they transpire with the rest of the city, it's about social progression. About resisting "the invasion" and the mainstream culture (aka basically being hipsters in the process).

Miami is the "live let live" anti-thesis example of that sort of city. It's culturally, socially, economically, and politically the opposite (Miami's not conservative but it's not a vocal political place like Seattle, Austin, or Portland where they made Bush & Boehner hating a form of art).

Admittedly, I've picked up on a lot of Austitude myself. Really myopic and narrow way to view the world personally but it's the "norm" there. It's the hipster norm. It would be considered uncool to be live let live there or different in general.

What are you talking about the focus in Miami isn't the downtown ? That is ludicrous thinking.

Downtown Miami / Brickell are VERY vibrant and active and full of energy and things to do. I dont need to go to MB to have a great time.

Miami beach and it's metro is just a major added plus. There is so much happening here downtown on a daily day, believe me I KNOW THIS.

I rarely even go to Miami beach but it's great to have it there, the best part too is I have everything at my fingertips nearby.

In LA not only is it's downtown mediocre at best for being the 2nd largest city in America but everything is so sprawled out to where traffic is a nightmare to get around and the air quality is horrible because of that. No thanks!!

The only places in in LA county I can appreciate is Santa Monica and Long Beach, LA itself is mediocre at best, its not the worst tho.

People go to visit San Fernando valley when in the la area, they go to visit beverly hills, west hollywood and hollywood, the go to visit the observatory, and they go to visit santa monica, or something other than it's core. Nobody cares about DTLA it's boring, and full of homeless people, and is not vibrant at all. It has improved though so I am not knocking it down completely it has improved a lot , just calling it how it is.

Lets not forget the future projects in the Downtown area, including MWC, Resorts World, and Brickell CityCentre

Check the poll. Miami is winning confortably.
Los Angeles is extremely overrated people boast and brag that it's all great, than you go there and it is a big disappointment. The metro is what makes LA a special place, the actual core though nobody seems to care about very much.

Some of the most popular areas in Miami-Dade (including the most popular area of all, South Beach) are not in the city of Miami. Ft. Lauderdale? Palm Beach? Coral Gables?

Miami is every bit as polycentric as Los Angeles.

Outside of Miami Beach. The rest of Miami is a third world dump of poverty and wannabees. Miami does have a better club vibe than LA. The clubs close way later than 2 am in LA.
