How many times do I have to explain myself. Dense SPRAWL (LA) and dense urban (Miami) is not the same!
I know you're trollin, but I'm gonna bite anyway. Alot of Miami-Dade County is dense sprawl also. Alot of LA's city-limits are dense, walk-able, vibrant, older, neighborhoods.
Outside of Miami Beach. The rest of Miami is a third world dump of poverty and wannabees. Miami does have a better club vibe than LA. The clubs close way later than 2 am in LA.
That's what makes Miami unique. Majority Hispanic suburbs, bars on the windows in the suburbs, people selling fruit on the streets in the suburbs. What other US suburbs(besides LA) can claim such a Latin/non-American vibe?

It's just kind of funny because if anything, Miami's development looks almost exactly the same as Los Angeles'. Seriously Long Beach and Miami could be the same city from a development standpoint.

Long Beach and Miami do look alot alike indeed. Miami-Dades Western burbs and the burbs of Broward County look like Orange County burbs.

Perhaps I'm confused because I've never been to LA and I'm from Philly, but the Miami metro area, to me, seems like dense sprawl. Even parts of Miami itself, namely Little Havana/Calle Ocho, feel like extremely dense sprawl. There's nothing inherently wrong with it, other than not being particularly walkable.

Downtown Miami / Brickell are VERY vibrant and active and full of energy and things to do. I dont need to go to MB to have a great time.
Brickell (more so than the Flagler area, or whatever you want to call the part of Downtown north of the river) is getting better every day. I remember it said in the Herald that before the Mary Brickell village, everyone left after 5 p.m. I can see how far it's come and it's obvious that it will keep getting better. But I say it's not the focus and it's really not.
When I first moved to Miami, I asked people where to go for fun. The answers I got was 1) South Beach and 2) The Hard Rock Casino up in Hollywood/Davie. There are also blocks of nothing at night--outside of Brickell and Bayfront Park, it can be dark and empty (what's with the lack of lights?). Brickell is fun, but small. More and more, people are going to Miami for Miami. But most are still going for South Beach and will be for a while. That's why I say it's the focus.
Personally, I'd just as soon go up to Hollywood, but that has a lot to do with the abundance of cheap parking and the lack of people who go to South Beach.

I rarely even go to Miami beach but it's great to have it there, the best part too is I have everything at my fingertips nearby.
Where are you living now? I like downtown Miami, although Wynwood/Midtown is also quite underrated.

....and the Miami Heat just defeated the LA Lakers
Considering how the Lakers have been playing this year that's not really anything to brag about. But when you beat one of the most storied and successful sports franchises in history I can see why you might get so excited.

In LA not only is it's downtown mediocre at best for being the 2nd largest city in America but everything is so sprawled out to where traffic is a nightmare to get around and the air quality is horrible because of that. No thanks!!
The only places in in LA county I can appreciate is Santa Monica and Long Beach, LA itself is mediocre at best, its not the worst tho.
People go to visit San Fernando valley when in the la area, they go to visit beverly hills, west hollywood and hollywood, the go to visit the observatory, and they go to visit santa monica, or something other than it's core. Nobody cares about DTLA it's boring, and full of homeless people, and is not vibrant at all. It has improved though so I am not knocking it down completely it has improved a lot , just calling it how it is.
and who the hell visits Downtown Miami when visiting and for what? Bayside Marketplace? Generic condos in Brickell?
