No one from Raleigh wants to come down here unless they're 21 and they're coming to party with friends from high school who are at ECU. I'd love to see Greenville grow too but we've just got to be realistic here.
Probably not but there are 2.2 million people east of I-95. I know young people love to go to college. ECU has 27k students, Pitt has about 8k. Families and young people directly north, south and east of Pitt Co really lack entertainment options outside of ECU sports and the beach. We've got thousands of younger military members in the region in Jacksonville, Goldsboro, etc.
I think Greenville could get 8-10k to see some decent acts. Alabama performed at DPAC with a 2700 cap, I think we could double that number for a show like that (once everything was up and running, and people knew to look to Greenville for live entertainment).
All this talk about an arena...I say the first logical step is to have a place like the Lincoln Theatre in Raleigh. That could draw in some decent acts to play in a great environment.
The attic was a dump but it brought in some damn fine acts back in the day. Ever since they closed the Greenville music scene has not been the same. Really, probably more important than the venue, is having someone with the knowledge & experience in the industry to pull in quality acts to a town that hasn't had any in quite awhile.

Didn't they put their name (or another similar business) in redoing White's Theater uptown? I would focus on that, get a couple of concerts under our belt.
I am sure a big crowd from New Bern would come to a decent venue for a decent act. Not to mention the Marines at Cherry Point and Lejuene! Though I think the road is one of the worst in the Universe!
