I believe it was around 1995 so about 20 years ago. Cars have changed with better safety features but I believe cars have gotten smaller so I am not sure higher speeds are a good idea. Jay

On certain stretches of road, a 75 mph speed limit makes sense. People are already doing it anyway, and artificially low speed limits blur the line between safe and unsafe driving and breed disrespect for the law. I favor a realistic speed limit, with tougher enforcement and penalties against those who violate the higher limits, while leaving people driving at safe (but currently illegal speeds) alone.

With the constant b******g that goes on here regarding the quality of drives, I can't imagine why anyone would support allowing them to go faster.

Totally agree!!! I84 East past East Hartford can easily support 75, as well as Rt9 Middletown on south. I84 past Waterbury as well. Bump up I95 in Fairfield county to 65, as well as all of Rt8, and I84 from farmington to the Waterbury line. The Merritt and Wilbur Cross Parkway would be fine at 65, although it gets to be a bit curvy down near the NY line so I wouldn't have a problem leaving that at 55.
