National Weather Service New York NY
410 PM EDT Tue Apr 10 2018

Overall, a warmer pattern developing with exception of last half
of the upcoming weekend into early next week.

At the surface, high pressure moving offshore Thursday into
Thursday night will be the first remarkable warm-up via low
level warm air advection with the increased SW flow

This hasn't happened since 1975. Only 1956 had less. I am impressed at the ability to stay under 49° for so many days this spring. I thought would be harder to happen now a days but I wonder if the Low Sun output is having an affect
Weather and climate is more complicated than both the supporters and deniers make of it, which is why even though IMHO the science behind global warming is sound (i.e. Venus is as hot as Mercury despite being twice as far from the sun because of its atmospheric composition), it is not the only factor in climate which makes it complex and causes debate. There is a point to a warming atmosphere producing more precipitation and if it happens to not warm up above freezing of course this will mean more snow.

At the same time there is evidence that quiet solar cycle periods produce cooler weather overall. The Maunder Minimum vs. the "Little Ice Age" of the 1600s (into the 1800s) is a really good example of this, though since that would cool weather globally, I would be curious to see if much of the rest of the world has been cooler than normal over the last month or two.

Just one of those misinformed things people wont grasp. Maybe its cause I look at weather & maps and models multiple times a day for past decade. Maybe its cause I read studies and learn about history but these same people are the ones worried about sea level rising 1" and million dollar beach homes going under.

Once you understand about the phasing of the jet streams making big storms, instabilitys of "cold" Upper Lows creating more precip, and how atmospheric energy with no precip can lead to intense snows or rainfall downstream without a warm atmosphere, then you'll have the "AhHa" moment.

Forecast Max temps for Friday and Sunday.

Some areas will be in the 70s then struggle past 40s 48hr later.

A backdoor cold front comes in on Saturday and we get deep into the cold again for couple days.

Lets see if NYC or Newark can hit 80° Friday. It's been since October 10th for NYC

Here's the latest GFS for New Haven.. Since the mid level temps of the atmosphere controls the surface temp pattern I always use the 850mb column to see upcoming patterns.

Note its in the teens and 20s today and tomorrow but warming up.

Friday to Monday the 5000 foot temps will surge into in the 40s and 50s which will allow the surface to heat up especially with sun so we have Upper 50s 60s and 70s. Sunday has rain so surface temps might be held back.

Then .. cold airmass comes back all next week BUT NOT AS COLD as what we just went through but still below normal.

Then maybe another surge of heat towards end of month but that's 2 weeks away so who knows.

That's why I said enjoy this coming warmth.. we may not see upper 50s/60s again till May.

That's fine with me. It can stay in the 50s if it wants to. Just NO SNOW and no freezing cold.

Nicest weather I ever saw was last March in the UK. Flowers blooming everywhere, temps in the mid to high 50s--and with those mild temps you only needed a light jacket. Also, that weather didn't heat up to 90 like it does here so the flowers lasted and lasted. Tulips, daffodils...flowers that just last a few days over here, lasted weeks and maybe months.

It was warm enough to walk along the beach, sit outside and eat when it was high 50s or 60, people were planting their vegetable gardens. We could use some sun and we could use some temps in the 50s-60s. And stay like that.
