Good for Stamford but (I'm guessing) bad for Waterbury. Jay

A new Popeye's restaurant is under construction on West Main Street with Diaz Street.

Popeye's to compete with KFC i see. In Norwalk Popeye's doesn't stand a chance against chic-fil-a. But I think it may put a dent in KFC's business. I wish they would open a Wendy's in town, now THAT would be nice.

Not that I am a health food junkie (at all) but I just can't see getting excited about any of these. They are okay once in a while but not on a regular basis. Even chic-fil-a does not excite me. They are building one in my town, Glastonbury, and I really do not care. Fried or grilled chicken breast sandwiches do nothing for me. Give me a good local fried chicken place like the Drumstick in Bridgeport any day over the large mass produced chains like KFC, Boston Market, Popeye's or chic-fil-a. JMHO, Jay

So why does Wendy's eschew Stamford's 130,000 residents and McDonalds operates only two locations(one of which is right off exit 9 of I-95 and mostly caters to the highway crowd.)?

Maybe because an outstanding feature of Stamford's dining scene is the relative absence of chains, especially fast food purveyors. Diners seem to prefer local ownership, inventive kitchens, made from scratch dishes, and fresh ingredients .. and why pizza places like Colony, Remo's, Amore's, Coalhouse, and Sergio's far outsell their four franchised counterparts.

That may also help explain the rapid turnover in restaurants at the Town Center. They are all franchises, with the possible exception of Plan B Burgers (which stil has multiple locations throughout the region).

IMO, the best chicken in town can be found @ Judy's Bar and Grill on High Ridge. Low country Buttermilk Fried Chicken, piping hot and crispy. Puts greasy, franchised buckets to shame.

Chic-Fil-A is the best one out of KFC, Popeyes (Popeyes is only good in the South). You are right, its good once in a while. Drumstick is VERY VERY good, having a chicken joint like that would be great.

I understand why there are no chains in Stamford, and its great for unique and local businesses. But to have a Wendy's wouldn't be bad at all. Sure beats Taco Bell.......

UConn Garage Destruction. According to Advocate, the extremely valuable land will be used as an outdoor student parking lot. Someday the space could be footprint for more classrooms or dorms.
