Maybe but the building is not really set up for large scale meetings. Most convention facilities have high ceiling which only the old trading floor has in the building. Plus the building does not have the large freight elevators needed either. Interesting idea though. Jay

Stamford is testing new parking meters (like the ones in Norwalk and New Haven) that accept credit cards and debit cards. This is actually quite some good news. A couple of weeks ago I went to a restaurant in the Columbus Park area of Downtown and before I could put my order, I asked if they had change for a dollar. I almost got a ticket, the police officer was writing up a ticket for another car three parking spaces away from mine.

Hopefully the new parking meters become general in the city.

I’m surprised they’re so late with those. They’ve been in Norwalk and New Haven for years.

They took away the construction barriers from the sidewalk of the new building on Tressert Boulevard and Atlantic Street. I guess this means they are basically done, at least as far as the outside of the building is concerned. They also completely rebuilt the sidewalk, which was in much need of such an intervention, and put the typical fancy light fixtures of Downtown. All in all, I like the new look of this corner.

It will be interesting to see what business (or businesses) open up at the base. This is another positive aspect of this new highrise. Unlike the highrises from the 1980's and 1990's that line up Tresser Boulevard, this new building actually attempts to be pedestrian friendly. It adds to the city life. I really hope it becomes successful in its intent.

Stamford is about to get a little more fun!

A regional go-karting chain is revving up a new speedway that is set to debut in the city’s Waterside section within the next few months.

RPM Raceway plans to open in the first half of this year an approximately 90,000-square-foot complex at 600 West Ave., a two-level facility that would mark RPM’s first in Connecticut and sixth in total. The site would include two quarter-mile racing tracks, a 14-lane bowling alley, racing simulators, arcade games, and dining and sports bar amenities.

The new destination, in a building that formerly housed a FedEx delivery center, would likely create between 75 and 100 jobs, according to RPM Raceway’s husband-and-wife owners and founders, Eyal Farage and Karen Davis-Farage.

“Since we opened in 2010 with our first location in Jersey City (N.J.), we knew that Connecticut was a state and, specifically, Fairfield County was a region we wanted to come to,” Davis-Farage said in an interview Wednesday. “Stamford is perfectly positioned to draw from surrounding areas.”

The raceway will feature electric karts capable of speeds of more than 45 miles per hour. Driving options would include head-to-head matchups, group races and year-round racing leagues. Children would have to be at least 6 years old and 4 feet tall to race.

South End of Stamford residents agree that neighborhood is getting better but it becoming more unaffordable

"The South End, they agreed, is better off for Harbor Point, reportedly one of the largest redevelopment projects in the nation. The neighborhood is cleaner, safer, more vibrant, with a nice park and a walkway along Stamford Harbor, residents said."

It is called "gentrification" and unfortunately that is what happens. Jay
