I think it is fairly easy to assume she made this whole thing up which then makes you think that the home life must be pretty screwy to say the least.
She may have partied too much when she was younger and her parents put heavy rules, restrictions, along with curfews and other expectations as a condition of her living in their home. They love their daughter and do seem to err on the overprotective side.
I think that she walked through the woods and met up with someone who picked her up and took her to the hotel to party. I don't know that, but it makes more sense than the story she has told.
She's a pretty girl and I'm sure that she gets plenty of male attention. Maybe she met someone and just wanted to have a good time. Her parents wouldn't have approved of that so she concocted this story to give herself an excuse for disappearing for a while.
It's possible, but geeez... Abandon her car, leave valuables inside? Scare to death her loving parents, BF, friends, community, social media followers, people at her work, school...
Risk her job for it? Nursing school?
She knew that her SIL will alert parents and police. That a search will start because time is crucial. I mean, she appeared intelligent enough to know all that.

So much at stake...
I think she wanted her family to get to her car so that her stuff would be o.k. She had to leave her phone behind because she didn't want her mom tracking her down.
I know that sounds terrible. But the desire for a hot night out with a handsome guy can make a girl do some mighty stupid stuff.
They need to loosen the leash. Let the girl breath. She's 25, not a teenager.
The view is clearer, and I don't see a toddler there or any grey car.
It looks like she was standing next to passenger side for a while, then walked off the right shoulder to the woods. Just in front of the freeway sign.

If all that is true, then it was better to move out than fake this drama.
Yes, she is 25 not 15. You would expect a bit more brain, though. She looks like a street smart girl.

Yep, she's got some things to figure out and sort things for sure.
I remember living with my parents briefly after college and really disliking the rules and regs. I was a FT working adult with a curfew and I hated it. So I saved up and moved out.
If I had to come up with a theory on why this happened, I would say that she did it so that she could spend a weekend partying at the Red Roof Inn w/o having to deal with her parents' strong disapproval and possibly even being kicked out of the house.
Her mom has said that she could track her daughter's phone and Carlee knew that. So, she ditched the phone, staged a struggle and made it look as though she had been kidnapped right there off of the shoulder of the highway.
I get the impression that Carlee's parents tend towards being overprotective of her. Maybe she was feeling a bit suffocated and needed to get away for a couple of days. She didn't factor in that it would be all over the news the way it was.
It's possible. She could've been thinking about it for a while as more of an ideation to get away from whatever was bothering her, then for whatever reasons she decided to actually go through with it. Then after a few days she might have realized that the "disappearing" life wasn't for her. Who knows?
I was wondering. If she had indeed had a psychotic break, wouldn't the hospital kept her for at least a day or something, for observation purposes? They seem to release her fairly quickly.
