At the end of the day we live in a free country and have been treated accordingly for the most part.

Again this very thread is a pure example of the over reaction of people regarding Covid. This thing is a glorified flu. Not a hoax, not some made up thing, but a serious situation that has been way overblown.
You mean people all over the world? Because the entire world has reacted to covid with lockdowns, etc. as well. Not just the USA. It's a new disease that we are dealing with here. The fact is that it's more contagious than the flu and more deadly. It is not the flu. Some of the long term affects of the disease include scarred lungs, heart damage and neurological damage. It's a very powerful virus. Good luck.

Sweden has failed in controlling the virus. Where are you getting that information from? Sweden has had 40% more deaths than the USA. The virus has hit Sweden very hard. And in spite of not imposing the same kind of shut downs as other countries, their economy has suffered, too.

What are you reading?

Sweden suffered a higher rate of death and are still nowhere close to anything like "herd immunity." The government officials of Sweden have openly admitted their policy was a mistake.

In 2018 the flu killed around 650,000 worldwide and we have a vaccine for it. Without a vaccine the flu would have killed how many in 2018 with that strain? 2 million? 3 million? We are sitting below 600,000 deaths. We will not get to 2-3 million in 2020.

Sorry the statistics are what they are and it does not fit the panic agenda here.

And no as the poster above said it is not the flu. When we look back at history in 100 years the flu will have far more deaths from it than covid will. If you could eradicate one from the Earth you would choose to eradicate the flu in a New York Second because once there is a vaccine for Covid this will be a blip on the radar. Likely it will have taken 1 million to 1.5 million lives. The flu deaths are in the tens of millions, if not over 100 million all time.

Sorry but even if it were a 1-2% death rate (which it isn't close to) it isn't worth ruining tens of millions of lives economically.

They were keeping medical capacity available by injecting morphine and midazolam into elderly patients. If they die from the morphine, the cause of death can't be Coronavirus.

Yngve Gustafsson, a geriatrics specialist at Umea University, told the BMJ that the proportion of older people in respiratory care nationally was lower than at the same time a year before, even though people over 70 were the worst affected by Covid-19. He, too, was aghast at the practice of doctors prescribing a “palliative cocktail” for sick older people in care homes over the telephone.

“Older people are routinely being given morphine and midazolam, which are respiratory-inhibiting,” he told the Svenska Dagbladet newspaper, “It’s active euthanasia, to say the least.”

What was the impact of Sweden’s soft approach to lockdown?

A new study suggests that Sweden’s limited lockdown measures have resulted in fewer deaths than expected.

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/art...ch-to-lockdown

Sweden's bet was that restrictive shutdowns is non-sustainable long term (and they were right) and every citizen has to take responsibility in keeping themselves and the society as a whole, safe. I think, it is too early to make judgement on what worked and what did not. There are multiple factors at play.

Here is a good source of information for comparative analysis. You can pick the countries from the left panel that you want to compare within the graphs.

People in Sweden, in general, are much more socially distant normally and I'm guessing they are better at following guidelines set by the government than we are.
