I can tell most of you are urban people without a clue and that includes Eric Cantor (R) and Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D) who made fools of themselves on Fox News Sunday without Bret Baier knowing enough himself to tell them they were acting like uninformed jerks.
I also can tell most of you aren't from the South where history re-enactments are commonplace. My own town does WWII re-enactments every year at our annual festival and in order to do that, half the re-enactors have to play German soldiers. There are also American soldiers, French civilians, etc. It's no different than other living history or re-enactment groups in the area that do the French and Indian War, Civil War, etc., where you have to play "the other side" and the town civilians in order to do the re-enactment. We also have pre-American Revolutionary War "garrison weekends" in the area where people play British soldiers and other villagers who live inside a fort.
Do those re-enactments include Waffen SS Uniforms??
Waffen SS were NOT German Army infantry, maam.
Any WWII re-enactments with Waffen SS troops, should include boxcars, barbed wire, and ovens.
I just can't imagine why Cantor and Wasserman, would be upset, can you?
Steve
The Waffen SS were primarily front line troops, not the ones carrying out the Holocaust directly. The Allgemeine SS were the ones directly involved in the death camps. Some units were involved in war crimes, etc., and some members were previously of the Allgemeine SS. However, there were also many conscripts and non-Germans in the end too.

Say whaaat.
'On March 29, 1945, the accused and his accomplices brought at least 57 Jewish forced labourers in several groups to a nearby forest area, where they had to give up their valuables and kneel by a grave,' the court said.
Storms was a member of Hitler's 5th SS Panzer Division 'Wiking'
'The accused and other SS members then cruelly shot the Jewish forced-labourers from behind.'
Though the court described the suspect simply as a 'retiree from Duisburg,' media reports have identified him as Adolf Storms, a former member of the 5th SS Panzer Division 'Wiking.'
I do believe that is the very unit that Mr. Iott so loves to honor through his reenactments.
Further:
According to the interpretation of the leading Nazi functionaries, of which Uiberreither’s testimony is an excellent example, the murder of thousands of Hungarian Jews during the evacuation was due to war-related “difficulties of transportation and communicationâ€. Yet in
actual fact, the murders immediately before and during the death marches were perpetrated on the basis of clear and uniform orders. The shooting of the sick and those unable to walk was commonplace in concentration-camp evacuations. It was now also applied in evacuation operations for the Hungarian Jews from the Southeastern Wall. Furthermore, there was another
order that had been a longstanding practice for the SS and Waffen-SS: Jews near combat zones were to be shot. These instructions were passed on by the Gau administrations and local Kreis
head officers to their subordinates, i.e., the guard units attached to the evacuation transports of Hungarian Jews. These were the Volkssturm, rural police, and Hitler Youth.51 The murders were thus blueprinted in advance; some circumspect commanders of transport appointed burial squads
even prior to the beginning of the march.52

Everything is possible. Everybody can play any possible character. Here are my pics of re-enactments from 3 different living history battle-related events and the crossing of the Cumberland Gap. It's a very popular activity in the South where I find it to be much more history-minded than other places I've lived. I find it incredulous that this incident is even an incident or the two that were on Fox News Sunday were falling all over themselves to condemn it:
He does reenactments for other things too. What's the big deal. More left desperate tactics.
Every conservative or rebuplican that goes up gets shot down by the left. That one is a witch, this one dresses like a Nazi, this one said that his wife should submit to him. These are all a bunch of crap. The problem with the left (everyday folks, not the politicians) is that they hear this crap from the liberal, so called leaders, and then don't look into the whole picture. You just go on believing a lie. You get all bent out of shape over nothing. Grasping at straws here. It's pathetic.
I did point out some units and members did commit atrocities...but it wasn't all of them, they weren't the ones running the death camps, generally.
Oh, that makes a hell of a difference. No we just gathered them up to go to the death camps and yeah we shot a bunch before they got there, but despite being the most dedicated of all Nazi's we weren't as bad as the Nazi's that got assigned to the death camps.
Oh, heaven help up those who continue to mitigate the crimes of the Shoah.

Oh, for gawd's sake! Some kid wears a Che T-shirt to a skate board park and the right is ready to pray for the resurrection of Joe McCarthy!
