It doesn't matter to them, they know their party is toast in Novemeber so they cease engaging in any type of rational discourse it is all innuendo, name calling etc. The Dems are in disarray.
You could make the case that the average Johnny Rebel fought to defend his home turf and not specifically to further the evils of slavery.
No such rationalization can be made for the Waffen-SS - they were specifically Hitler's troops, embraced Nazism with enthusiasm and were proud of it. As if that wasn't bad enough, the Wiking division was, basically, recruited from quislings. And as has been established, their "re-enactments" aren't rooted in fact.
Yeah it'd be one thing to dress up a Confederate soldier fighting for love of the South...But dressing up as an SS is a little different than even dressing up as typical German infantry unit in the Werhrmarcht. The Waffen SS weren't average Germans conscripted or volunteering to fighting because of German patriotism. These were Nordic Northern Europeans who were volunteering to fight with the German enemy that had conquered their home countries for the most part(except for Finland which was simply an ally of Germany). These were traitors to their own countries who identified with the ideas of National Socialism.
I'm not claiming that this guy in Ohio is a racist based on this--for all I know he could just be a war buff with a severe lack of judgment---but this entire reenactment thing seems to be a little weird. Their website tries to paint the Wiking SS as idealists fighting communism--but read any of the history or Operation Barbarossa and the fate of Russian and Ukrainian civilians under the Nazi invasion and try to rationalize this. The Wiking SS took part in the murder of Hungarian and Ukrainian Jews as well---in addition to playing a role in the brutal supression of the Warsaw Uprising and the subsequent destruction of Warsaw in it's entirety.

It truly appears that so many of our CDF folks are completely consumed with the "Historical Concept of NAZI Germany and it's tremendous accomplishments in regards to domination of most of Europe from 1940 -1943 !
Regardless of the constant stereotyping of others as modern day NAZI'S and or supporting a return to such a mindset or lifestyle ...
may we never forget that Germany was truly in a strictly historical sense one tremendously formidable nation in 1938 and under the leadership of Mr. Hitler and the Nazi Party accomplished tremendous "Geo-Political " global objectives.
The NAZI'S came damn close to world domination and didn't miss it by much ! Lets maintain our intelligent "Historical Perspective" regarding the accomplishments of the "Third Reich" and the fact that they took on just a wee bit to much at one time to accomplish all their goals of planting the German flag all around the globe.
Remember ... the clueless PC historical version of the Third Reich during the years of 1933 - 1945 will always reflect the blithering version of simpletons who are a disgrace to those of us whom have an intensive educational background in :Actual History" and not the "Pseudo Version" of fools !
Have a great evening and read your "Actual History Books" for the correct version ..... It is what it is, so why not have the facts instead of the moronic fiction of todays PC idjits !
However, if you absolutely must, why pick the freakin' SS? Of all the Nazi-era military organizations, this was the one specifically formed to be obedient and loyal to the Fuehrer, composed of men who embraced the Nazi ideology with enthusiasm. They oversaw the Death Camps. Their arrogance even when captured is well-documented. They were Hitler's personal Praetorian Guard, and they were very proud of it. If evil has a face, the SS isn't much off.
Again, if you had your way I guess the part Germany and the nazis played in world history would be no more.

They aren't historical events, since history never had the Wiking division of the Waffen SS fighting American soldiers, which is what this ignoramus is acting out on the weekends.
It's not a "re-enactment" if it never happened!
