And God forbid we only pay for those that are truly "college ready". We'd let everyone go to college including the illegals.
Your so correct as know many young people who have started, drawn a check every month for their expences and then never finished. Weren't big on paying back the loans either. Laws have changed and now the govt will get it back sooner or later. We had a community college here that took anybody. In may instances the people never graduated from school, could barely read or write, spelling horrible and when someone caught on would dismiss people from program. One in particular took all the money he got for tuition and bills and went with girlfriend to fla. for ten days. Probably thousands of cases like this. No wonder people clamor to get here as we are the easiest nation on the planet to rip off and get away with it.

Only if wealthy lefties pay for others out of their own pockets.

They won't.

Seems like this idea has been taking off in recent years especially with student loan debt ranking just behind credit card debt.

Do you support the left's idea of free college tuition? Good or bad for America?
Yep, I support it.

Despite the objections of conservatives, we Americans decided decades ago that children should get a free education. And that's worked out very well.

And for decades a high school education was enough to make a decent living. Well that's no longer the case... now you need more education.

So a rational country would think... ok, today's world requires more education. It worked pretty well when we gave universal education up through high school. Let's extend that to college.

Doesn't seem like that big a stretch to me.

And this is why this kind of system would never fly here. So forget it, folks: we can't have a northwestern European-style university system, and that's that.

If you think college is expensive now wait until government pays the tab.

If students don't pay for it who does pay for it?

I know, we'll just raise taxes!

Bernie Sanders Backs Top Income Tax Rate Above 50 Percent
Would significantly reduce economic growth, wages, and jobs, experts say

He's even blubbering about bringing back the 90% and we all know how well that worked.

High school education is still enough if you learn a skill afterwords. Many are making plenty of money in fields that cannot find workers, plumbers, linemens, welders, electricians, etc.

Where does the money for other education come from?

This ain't rocket surgery. MOST other industrialized countries manage to pay for people to go to college.

It's a shame that MOST Americans think so little of their fellow man that they prioritize punishment over education.

Other countries also test out a portion of the population stoping their education earlier than everyone.

Meaning the government picks and chooses who moves forward and who doesn't.

Bull****.

I've known people in all those lines of work. Hell I've worked as a welder. And yes there are good paying jobs in those fields. And for every good paying job with security and a future... there are TEN jobs with **** pay and no job security.

A few people make a good living at blue-collar work (mostly at union jobs or in heavily regulated industries where you can only hire on if you're the boss's brother-in-law). But by and large this country has no respect for blue-collar workers. And that's a direct result of Republican policies.
