I've been part of several neighborhood conversations where older women have told me they plan to vote for Clinton because they think Trump would be just terrible but they are not telling their husbands because they don't want to rile them up. Noticed one has Trump/Pence signs in her front yard this weekend.

This is one weird election.

GOP nominates the oddest characters.

Last time they nominated a vulture capitalist who could barely hide his disdain for most voters.

Time before that it was "mad man" McCain and "word salad" Sarah. Talk about a losing ticket.

Prior to that, it was frat boy Bush and the evil Cheney. Thanks to political shenanigans like "swift boating" they were elected and look where that got us.

Then there was the actor who was so out of it that he believed he'd flown missions in WWII, though it was only roles he'd played in movies. The Iran-Contra business comes to mind.

Nixon who was such a dreadful conspirator that he had to resign.

Can't wait to see who they nominate in 2020.

Then it's time for redistricting and between that and changing demographics, it won't make any difference who they nominate.

Who also simplified the tax structure, brought down gasoline prices and, oh, got the Soviet Union to "tear down the wall." Some out of touch actor.

During the Reagan administration, the top income tax rate was "simplified" from 70% to 28%.

"Reagan nearly tripled the federal budget deficit. ... Despite the conservative myth that tax cuts somehow increase revenue, the government went deeper into debt and Reagan had to raise taxes just a year after he enacted his tax cut. Despite ten more tax hikes on everything from gasoline to corporate income, Reagan was never able to get the deficit under control."

"Unemployment soared after Reagan’s 1981 tax cuts."

"Income inequality exploded. Despite the myth that Reagan presided over an era of unmatched economic boom for all Americans, Reagan disproportionately taxed the poor and middle class."

"Reagan gave amnesty to 3 million undocumented immigrants. Reagan signed into law a bill that made any immigrant who had entered the country before 1982 eligible for amnesty. The bill was sold as a crackdown, but its tough sanctions on employers who hired undocumented immigrants were removed before final passage."

"Reagan illegally funneled weapons to Iran. Reagan and other senior U.S. officials secretly sold arms to officials in Iran, which was subject to a an arms embargo at the time, in exchange for American hostages. Some funds from the illegal arms sales also went to fund anti-Communist rebels in Nicaragua — something Congress had already prohibited the administration from doing. "

"Reagan helped create the Taliban and Osama Bin Laden. Reagan fought a proxy war with the Soviet Union by training, arming, equipping, and funding Islamist mujahidin fighters in Afghanistan. Reagan funneled billions of dollars, along with top-secret intelligence and sophisticated weaponry to these fighters through the Pakistani intelligence service. The Talbian and Osama Bin Laden — a prominent mujahidin commander — emerged from these mujahidin groups Reagan helped create."

Please, Gorbachev did not tear down that wall because of a speech.

Reagan gave the speech in 1987. Two years later the wall came down.

While he delivered a lovely speech, "Mikhail Gorbachev's reforms and East German protesters were far more important."

Let's Please Stop Crediting Ronald Reagan for the Fall of the Berlin Wall - The Atlantic

With a lot of loopholes such as the ability to deduct from income "passive" losses.

For a short time, yes, but came back down by 1984.

I believe that the restrictions to which you are referring are flatly unconstitutional. Every president of whom I am aware has considered those laws and the War Powers Act unconstitutional.

Do you havce a better suggestion on how to take down hostile regimes? Would you rather have done what Bush 43 did, send in the U.S. troops?

Reagan was the first president that didn't rhetorically appease the Soviet Union. Given the development of the fax machine as a practical means of communication that devastated the former Soviet Union.

John Kasich would have been a winner. It should have been Kasich this year.
