I think I prefer the term "cautious optimism" to "happiness" but whatever you want to call it, it's a positive feeling that so far seems to be growing. (For most people of course. Can't please everyone.)
It's a feeling like we were all on the Titanic, with a captain heading straight for the icebergs. But now we have a new captain who finally sees the icebergs and who's steering as hard as he can to set a safer course. So yes, there is still plenty to worry about but it seems like we are on a better course--and that's what creates this feeling.
Wow, I guess it's a feeling of hope. I haven't felt it in such a long time that I almost didn't recognize it.
That's how I feel. Obama is one man, not the Messiah (as the Right likes to think the Left thinks of him), but he's a smart, well-educated, thoughtful, energetic man who wants to do the best he can for the country. It's a welcome change from the last 8 years.
