Lots of rules
Lack of higher end jobs unless you are a realtor (and those are lacking now)
Little in the way of manufacturing
Not very environmentally sensitive

In short, I am going to get out of the Cape at first opp... either to the McGregor corridor into an older house or out to Pine Island Center into a newer house.
The service business remark, is indeed the greatest POSITIVE, I have found in all my time in Cape Coral. There are so many services that are still needed here, for the the elderly, and some other specialized markets. Like Norman Vincent Peale once wrote..."Find a need, and fill it"(Bet some of you out there didnt think I could say anything positive, much less read anything positive, eh?) The cons you listed stand, as, the topic here is in the form of a question..why do people speak negatively...?
I'm gonna get out of the Cape too, but personally, I dont think I'll feel like I've left Cape Coral until I'm somewhere west of Amarillo, TX

Cape Coral, FL sw 33914, se 33904. I'm betting it's the same town. Again, I can only say, that I report my own experiences.
I'm actually happy for anyone out there that hasnt experienced some negative issues during their time in Cape Coral. I certainly dont expect to hear every person residing in the Cape to report bad experiences. This isnt Long Island after all

Well, I dont know about harping, but there is a TOPIC of discussion here isnt there?

Because someone tries to adhere to the topic of the thread, you would characterize them as negative, unhappy people that would complain about something wherever they live...perhaps the last part about the complaining is correct. Just this morning, I was telling my gardener how my roses dont smell as good as they used too.

I see a stupid kid as a symptom of a bigger problem, and the possibilities are......1) the stupid kid is a product of equally stupid parents, or 2) the stupid kid is a product of parents that are stressed beyond the limits, trying to hold down 2-3 jobs, cope with the rising costs associated with living in Cape Coral, while their wages stay the same or decline, keep everyone fed, and the wolf off the door. They simply dont have enuf hours in the day, to properly supervise the successful tutiledge of their children. Either way, it's not a cheery scenario. But what do I know? I'm an unhappy, negative person.

I agree, any day we can meet the sun one more time, is a miracle, to which we owe praise and thanks to our creator.
Try a different color rose , and it will smell better for awhile.

Default Cape Coral, FL

Dear Joe,

I am very glad I came across your article about Florida and the positive and uplifting spirit.

Just like you, I believe the market has started to shift in the past few months (not to say prices are going up but rather starting to stabalize) and buyers do start to realize it.

When you come to town, I will be happy to assist you in finding your new home as I am a real estate agent specializing in Cape Coral, Fort Myers and all around Lee county.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or in need for information.

Thanks again.

Real estate agents will tell you ANYTHING to make you think it's getting better here... It's NOT.

Fifty-seven of the houses sold in April were in one community - Coral Lakes in Cape Coral, where Fort Myers-based businessman O.J. Buigas in March purchased 116 completed but never-lived-in houses and townhouses for $13.5 million from Engle Homes. Engle's parent company, Tousa Inc., is seeking to reorganize under federal bankruptcy protection.

Buigas immediately reduced the prices at Coral Lakes by about 40 percent and they've all been sold, said Denny Grimes of Denny Grimes & Co., who marketed the homes for Buigas.

40% off is not things getting better, Thats called desperation!!!!

Firemed is right.

Pretty much all houses up for sale are "reduced", or on "special", it's like seeing a sale at a dollar store, how much lower can it get???!!! LOL!!!! They are pulling at strings to get them sold, but all the 20+ houses on my street are STILL for sale or foreclosed on, and a few gave up on trying. Ya, it's so much better... How is that better?

I forget the road where my brother in law lives on but every single house on his road was for sale at one point before he moved out and out of those I think at least 40% he said were abandoned and in foreclosure. My wife and I had looked into moving up there but after going up a few times decided against it just b/c of the amount of empty houses and still declining prices. It'll get better eventually but not in the near future.

I lived there from 1977- 1980. My kids had a great time fishing in the canal across the street. At that time they sprayed for mosquitoes by airplane. There's nothing like being awakened at 7:00 am by the roar of aircraft engines at rooftop level. The Cape Coral mosquitoes from this time period are #2 on my all-time list, falling just behind their Minnesota cousins. The most important item in my Minnesota golf bag was bug repellant. That being said, I enjoyed living there. It is a boater's paradise.
