Maybe folks simply vote for the candidate they best like?

Of course it can be said, because it is a fact. We've never had a black governor. Black voters have voted for a white candidate since they got the right to vote, which was longer ago than 45 years (not nearly long enough ago, but longer than the 45 years you claim whites have so generously been voting for black candidates).

I think you’re looking for an issue that is almost nonexistent. If independents don’t like Abrams because she is a black woman, then she’d have no shot. In fact, she has the best shot of any liberal candidate that has ever run for governor. I suspect she will do better with independents than Carter.

I didn't say that. And I don't believe she's any more liberal than Joe Frank Harris, Jimmy Carter, or Roy Barnes were. She just seems liberal because of how far right the republican party is now. So I would not agree that she has the best shot of any liberal candidate that has ever run in this state.

You seem to be having a problem distinguishing the past from the present which was my point. We have current voting data that shows white candidates being discriminated against. We have current data that shows that these racist white people indeed will vote for and elect black candidates on a local and national level. I don't care what color the Governor is. Do you?

Abrams has a far better shot than Carter and it is because Carter wasn't going to get the black vote in the numbers Abrams will. Which tells us what?

Nothing tells us anything yet.

But I will say that a young upstart challenging an incumbent is a very different scenario than Abrams vs. Kemp.

Fair point. Abrams absolutely has a shot to win. Much more so than perhaps any Democratic candidate since Roy Barnes.

The late Sen. John McCain seems liberal because of how far right the Republican party became.

With the case of this race, I just wish I knew more details about what they plan to do for the state. I'll have to watch the debate.

Both have started appearing in ads. Both are being pretty positive at this point. At least in the ads they themselves appear in.
