Do you think with the things he said that he is good with women? Personally, I don't think that someone who talks like that is comfortable with equal relationships with women.

Is that improper?

I have no idea if he's good with women. I have no idea if these 'topics' below even exist...but at the end of the day why does it matter if he's 'good with women'? Plenty of feminists are bad with men..does it mean their voices shouldn't be heard?

If someone said something offensive to men in general I would have the same reaction. Insulting a whole gender is the symptom of a weak intellect. Or insulting a whole race, or religion, etc.

IDK, there's so many wackjobs out there that I wouldn't be surprised if those are real topics in gender studies. Would it still be insulting if someone found the question "Twerking, is it really a Black Woman Thing?" a waste of time?

Where do you draw the line?

The time may have been better spent in a remedial English class! No offense intended.

and retroactive social justice (a/k/a/ "payback" as that poster alluded to)! Because that always solves matters

Gender is the social construct; a person's sex denotes the purely biological differences

I think it is even worse than that. I argue that gender studies should not be a major available for undergraduates in which to earn a BA. I argue subjective & squishy gender studies is not an academic discipline in the first place. Institutions of higher learning do not offer BAs in "Wine Appreciation" for this reason; they should not offer a BA in gender studies either.

This is silly. Students need to seek counseling on career options with each major and minor - that should be provided by the school and be realistic. Who is to say that women's studies as a major, combined with an appropriate minor is squishier than the fine arts major? As an undergraduate I would hope that the university has done surveys of its graduates saying what kinds of jobs each major has gotten, or at least has access to data from a broader array of universities. I would want the opportunity to make my own decisions and not be shut down.

Seriously...if I can major in pottery, there's no reason I can't major in women's/gender roles. It may be risky but with counseling this is the student's prerogative. Most majors also require more practical coursework to round out the major too - for example, psych majors typically have to take two statistics classes that could be applied to business, or another research/analyst position.

BTW, how many English majors don't teach English or "do" English but have some kind of job in broader communications/media/marketing? Their English major had NOTHING to do with getting that job? Let the employer decide if they are qualified!
