I'm no sports fan but was looking through the LA Times and noticed several stories about the rioting after the Lakers' Victory. Why on earth must rioting follow sports victories? What's up with these savages?

I think there's a thug culture in L.A. that's very difficult to eliminate. It's an outgrowth of an underclass that perpetuates itself year after year.

Like you said, they are savages who are ignorant and uneducated. It's truly sad how some men become primitive human beings when it comes to sports as if they're in the stone age.

Unfortunately this tends to be a national trend. L.A. isn't unique in having riots following sporting victories (doesn't make it right, just saying people are dumb everywhere). We just have had a lot of championships recently, so it seems more frequent. Other major cities all struggle with a small group of people that just go too crazy after a victory. Boston, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Oakland, San Francisco, Detroit, and more are some other cities that suffer post-victory riots.

We had a Riot the other day in NYC , at free concert that got canceled......the people who seem to ruin things are the thugs and low lifes....for the off topic record Hanson and Drake fans do not mix.... Its a shame they didn't fire Tear gas form the Helicopters in either case , would have been fun to see........After any game victory as big as this , you will expect to see some rioting... I thought the LAPD was prepared for this?

And the US media still seem to think that hooliganism is only a British thing...

It's sad when a person is enthusiastic about the Lakers winning (something positive happening in California for once) and someone else brings up the rioting - as if everyone does it. It casts a pall over the whole event.

I wonder if one day they'll stop selling alcohol at sporting events. But that won't stop the hooligans in the surrounding neighborhoods from drinking outside of the venue.

It seems you are experiencing what has been happening in Europe for years. Banning alcohol doesn't stop the problem, in the UK its illegal to handle alcohol whilst in view of the pitch but all this does is means people gather in the bars around, and cause trouble there instead of inside the stadium.
