You need to find a job first and then decide on where to live based on the commute.

You will need a car. You could get by without one if you lived and worked downtown/Gulch but no way @ $900/month.

stay away from east
This is so incorrect. East Nashville is a huge area with everything from close to million dollar homes to the projects.

You should look in Madison or Antioch areas for your budget.

Compared to Chicago all of Nashville is safe. With that said there are still areas you would not necessarily want to reside. Due to all the immigration to Nashville...........rentals can name their price with few to no incentives. Just last week the local news discussing the impact of the number of people moving to Nashville has the average rental price at $1400.00 and that is not a price in the downtown area. $1400 will get you on the fringes of Nashville in a place you would consider living.

For cost and safety the surrounding counties offer better prices but just plan on an hour commute for a 30 minute drive IF there are no problems and its not raining otherwise add at least another half hour.

Must be an exodus from Chicagoland. Four families on my street have moved here in the past two years. Lots of kids.

Taxes are high, and the State is a financial mess. I'm glad I got out of Illinois.

North Nashville is almost all a mess. Some areas are okay but right off the highway from where I-24 and I-65 meet in North Nashville is not safe. There’s a Waffle House where a lot of drunk people go to early morning. There’s not many gangs compared to Chicago but there are a few. Just stay away from that North Side and you’ll be alright.
