Everyone lives in a particular community board. It's easy to do a search to find out what CB your address is in. CB preference as it relates to these lotteries is when you live in the same CB as the building that is being built. In the case of 461 Dean ST, four community boards are given preference because the area encompasses these different communities. You can find which CB is getting preference in every lottery announcement. It pays to know what CB you live in as signing up for a housing lottery for a building being built in your CB will give you a better chance of being called for an interview. They usually set aside 50% of the total units for CB members.
If you have CB preference, will your log number read so? Like, "CB" at the end of the number or a "P" for preference? Why do some people have a, "NP" for no preference at the end of their log numbers while others - also without preference don't?

when I received my email stating that I had an interview my log number did not say CB. I knew I had CB preference because of the area I lived in.
Stormgal, I've heard for other lotteries that you get a CB put on your log if that's the case. I know for a fact I have a CB preference, but my number doesn't include those letters. Food for thought.
