It wasn't as serious as they made it out to be but if you was without electric for 6 hours it was far from a joke.

Now I can say it was a joke because I didn't lose power at all

I can't believe the folks that believe that shutting down the MTA was unnecessary - did you see the photos of the Coney Island and Lenox Hill yards???? If trains would have been stored there as normal, there would have been SIGNIFICANT damage to assets, and we'd probably be looking at quite a long time without subway service. By cutting service and moving trains underground, a (relatively) quick return to service is possible. Of course, every bit of track needs to be inspected, and there is some damage that'll need to be fixed. All the trains that were moved to underground storage need to be brought back where they belong.

Latest update is that quasi-normal service will resume at 6AM.

Agreed. This thread mainly consists of posters with severe myopia.

There will be subway service with some exceptions, beginning at 6 am Monday.

I don't think it was a joke for the 20 people that died. For the people who lost their homes or have severe damage.

Why are you posting a picture from 1992?

Media hype was excessive, over reaction from the NYC Mayor, over prepared for irene and under-prepared for the snow storm, wtf. They could have had limited bus and subway service, but close down transportation, c'mon man, they had much more rain than this in recent memory!

It's a no brainer, one has to take the same precautions for bad weather, regardless, geez louise, water, can products, batteries, move from low lying areas, etc, what's the big effin deal, oh right, the sky was falling, I now understand the rationale behind the hoopla.

You guys are expecting your mayor to have a crystal ball and be totally exact and precise in his decisions. I feel sorry for anyone in his or any other in his position to have to make life and death decisions and still not get any appreciation.

The problem lies in the inconsistency.

Poor marks during the blizzard. Virtually no preparation for the worse (wind wise) tropical storm which hit last year.

For this one you had all out Armageddon talk.
