I was up all night in fear a tree branch was going to crash through my roof. I keep hearing cracking noises, then, boom! A good chunk of ceiling fell through. Not because of a branch, but still not cool. So I put a few buckets til catch the water, but bugs still flew in all night.
Silly, no. Annoyed and irritated, yes. My roommate had been HYERVENTILATING for the past week. She bought hundreds of dollars worth of canned food, a generator, I can't even walk into my kitchen because there's so much bottled water. She yelled at me for not "pitching in" like she did. Couldn't take a shower last night because she insisted on filling the bathtub with water. She sat in front of the TV for 12 hours yesterday watching TWC at their fever pitch. I am ready to raise holy hell today. People need to get a grip. Be prepared but all this hysteria and masturbation over it... get real.
Unfortunately, a South New Jersey woman has been found dead. She was swept up by flood waters after leaving her home. Christie's message was clear about staying off the road. Imagine how bad it could have been if people were running around.
Haha, I bought NOTHING xp.... ONly thing we did different was bought a half gallon of milk instead of a full gallon because our power has gone out 4 times in the past month because the electric company does not know how to fix power lines the right way -____- (It was only my house and the 4 around me who share the same box who were losing power)
I agree with Bloomberg's response. Millions of people running around wouldve been bad. But after this, I am not going to rely on the Weather Channel or any 24 hour news source for updates on weather (or anything else, really). For them, it's not about "better safe than sorry". It's about keeping the public in a panic. People who are scared and whipped to a frenzy will keep their ratings higher. The dealbreaker for me yesterday was when I saw numerous online sources point out that Irene had significantly weakened at some point yesterday. TWC and their online site made NO mention of that for hours. That was it for me and I no longer trust them as an accurate source. It's dangerous and counter-productive to hype up hurricanes and tornado warnings. People are eventually not going to take them seriously, and when the ACTUAL big one hits, everyone will be so used to the media's theatrics that real warnings won't be recognized.

I'm sorry but this is funny lol. This is exactly the dangerous hype that this media frenzy caused. better safe than sorry true, but this hysteria is the consequence of being overprepared.
All in all I'm sure businesses did well. I'm still trying to figure out when it'll be a good day to head to the grocery store.

I can relate all too well. The almost exact same scenario happened with my roommate (just switch out TWC for NY1). He even ended the night yesterday by calling one last time to his family in his home country saying he had no idea when he would be able to talk to them again being that the phone lines would prob. be lost overnight. Funny, he's in the other room talking to them right now.
I love this thread! Been "lurking" (so to speak) almost since the beginning. Thanks, bluedog, for getting it rolling. Ironically, this discussion has lent much sanity to the situation. My two cents: For many NY'ers, except for those who have lived in places where hurricanes are a regular occurrence, this is huge. I'm just glad it's not as severe as was predicted. Some folks seem to think the worst is yet to come. Somebody tell me what these folks are on about. Is this just more fear-mongering, or ??? Stay safe everyone, but don't get caught up in the doomsday predictions--literally or metaphorically. Caramba... lol

Reason: I hate typos. lol
Keep in mind, a Tropical Storm hit NYC, not a hurricane. The true hurricane was down in NC and Virginia. The worst thing this storm did was the flooding. There are some amazing flood photos in lower Manhattan and S.I.
