From what I know, 180th St. is the northern border of the South Bronx

thats very right. fordham and uni are the south bx.

the confusion, and an above poster mentioned it....the term "south bronx" was a way to distinguish the better parts of the bx from the ghettos, not really a geographical term. some of the areas of the south bronx are indeed in the south, but it also includes other areas that happen to be in the central (fordham) and west (uni heights), that became ghettos and neighbor the southern parts.

who knows, if trends continue......maybe the entire bronx will be the south bronx one day. lol

I know Wikipedia is not a good source, but for what's it worth:

The South Bronx stretches perhaps further today than it did in the turbulent 1970s; today the neighborhoods of Tremont and University Heightsare often considered part of the South Bronx. Some even argue that the Soundview section is part of the South Bronx, or even its eastern neighbor, Castle Hill. The northern limit of the South Bronx is commonly thought to be at Fordham Road. Wherever the South Bronx exactly is, it was thought of as an icon of urban decay, as shown in 1981 Paul Newman film Fort Apache, The Bronx.

Neighborhood borders can be very subjective, but I'd gather that if you ask most people in the Bronx if Fordham and Uni Heights are part of the south bronx, they will say, no. They are generally not considered part of the South Bronx.

yeah I just did, but a lot of people that I know don't consider Fordham to be the South Bronx. Now some people do consider University Heights to be the South Bronx. It has been my experience that people usually consider the beginning of Uni. Heights to be where the South Bronx ends. Like I pointed out before, this can be very subjective.

fordham is the south bronx, trust me lol. traditionally, fordham rd has been the northern border.

as a matter of fact, ive heard lots of ppl call even kingsbridge and bedford park as the south bronx.

again, ur thinking more of in a geographical sense...which isnt really the case with the term south bx.

What your describing is kinda like how people have now started calling the Dominican areas of Harlem, Spanish Harlem.

heres an example that might help you understand better.

the area THROGGS NECK......which is in fact, in the SOUTHERN part of the bronx....would NEVER be called "south bronx".

i've never heard anyone, and i've lived my entire life in the bx, call throggs neck the south bronx. its referred to as EAST bronx, SPECIFICALLY to distinguish it as a "nice" area and not to confuse it with the ghettos of the "SOUTH BRONX".
