just got power back (heat). Recognize that I am more fortunate than those who are still out there in the cold, or even worse--with a home that washed away.

Please all know that there is a phenomena following any disaster known as survivors guilt. Anyone in the vicinity of a disaster is affected. There is no such thing as not being affected. Tell your story 100 times...visit w/ others. If there are disaster related workers doing door to door talk to them. They will have resource information that can be helpful to yourselves and your family. This ink is from the main FEMA webpage having clicked on, faq section. Please check the resource sections and familiarize yourselves w/ all portions/sections. Also, check the private sector....critical information regarding volunteers and rebuilding...check the religious and christian based agencies in your areas for any assistance. Many disaster events and organizations have honed this information. The other sections I've linked were the plan, prepare, mitigate and Voluntary, Faith based...under private sector....Be safe

Hope those help. Though, I understand that if he is in a lot of pain, it might not be fair to wait around hoping something happens

A nurse I know on Staten Island said that her son is a firefighter, and that he estimates the deaths on SI to be much, much higher than what they are saying on the news. I wonder why they downplay the numbers. He said they are pulling bodies out of everywhere.

Thanks, but I managed to find a no-kill shelter in Brooklyn to take him.

They are a great place, and when things settle down, my cousin and I plan on making donations.

Some points from Mayor Bloomberg's briefing this afternoon:

70,000 Con Edison customers are without power and 40,000 LIPA customers are without power in NYC.

From noon to 4PM, there are 9 distribution centers for blankets, food and water.(This will continue as long as needed.) There are also trucks serving hot meals until 4PM today.

The Queens Midtown Tunnel will be open tomorrow.

Starting tomorrow at 6AM there will be an odd/even gasoline rationing plan in effect. (If one's license plate ends in an odd number, a letter or a character one can fill tomorrow which is an odd day.)
