The vast majority of the Bronx is much safer statistically than Bed Stuy, but maybe the presence of gentrifiers makes people perceive it to be safer?
Statistically my @ss. When you can only name a handful of neighborhoods that are safe for the entire borough, that's the problem. All of them are majority white too. The issue is you don't really have middle class minority neighborhoods in the Bronx. They're either working class or poor.
I'm a fan of the Bronx because it has beautiful neighborhoods and architecture, but it was planned poorly in some parts. When the Cross Bronx Expressway came in and destroyed stable neighborhoods it was the beginning of the end.
The Bronx ain’t sh it. I keep telling y’all over and over again. The Bronx ain’t sh it.
Let's not bash the entire borough. There's Riverdale, Country Club, Woodlawn, City Island, parts of Throggs Neck, Pelham Bay, Pelham Gardens and parts of Pelham Parkway are just fine.

8 neighborhoods out of the entire borough are good. That’s the problem lmao
i mean this thread is really hyperbole. 2017 was record lows for murders, so even a 100% uptick wouldn't be that crazy. more like ebs and flows in a city with 8 million people.
as a 90's baby that grew up in the LES projects, NYC has never felt safer overall.

Years ago a lion jumped out of its enclosure in California, and ever since, I'm scared when I pass the lions in the Bronx zoo. I know it's highly unlikely I'll be eaten by one there, but I still walk by really fast.
Because people will be scared of things they find scary, a rise in crime will be perceived as a bigger problem in Hunts Point for instance than Riverdale. If you look at the crime map of murders for the past available year (May 2017 - May 2018), you'll find Riverdale's precinct is pretty on par with Hunts Point for instance. The murder rate was twice as high in the 50th (Riverdale and Kingsbridge) than in the 52nd (North Fordham and Bedford Park). Really they're all very safe. (I'm pretty sure your chance of getting killed driving in Nebraska is greater than walking around in the South Bronx). But the statistics don't matter to people really because their perceptions are so important.

I agree.
