Rudy G benefited from reforms begun by Dinkins as well. RUDY G benefited mightily from being good at the Funerals after 9/11. His reputation was not too great prior if I recall. He had lots of opponents prior to 9/11, he alienated lots of groups.
Rudy has a plot to ensure that Trump goes down.
Credit for the current state of NYC goes to Bloomberg. It was still a dirty city with an arrogant city gov't under Giuliani. And more than a few of his staff have seen the inside of a court due to allegations of corruption.
Singapore is a much different country with much different values from us. The United States is much more freedom minded.
Such as what exactly different values? Freedom to harass and attack other people or freedom to break laws is not commonly considered an American value, as far as I know. Or maybe it is now in NYC?
Opinion:
Your negative comments towards our wonderful police force makes one question your own history with them.
Worked Harlem since the 70's and feel sorry for the many good people I have befriended living among some of the worse
miscreants of society. Police Officers are far from stupid. One can not just apply for a job and get it. There is specific criteria
to be met. I'm sure you are acquainted with the requirements. You keep telling people this is a new time we are in as Police are being watched more than ever? I agree. Body cams are needed to protect many a police officer from lunatics. Video taped justifiable self defense is a necessity and will be a more common go to proof in this crazy disrespect a cop city. So criminals beware. You are being watched! Things go viral quickly? Agreed. Those punk hood rats dousing police officers with everything from water to bricks regardless of age will be apprehended and brought to justice. Cops having a bad rap? Maybe in your neighborhood. Not in a neighborhood that respects officers. When is the last time you stood next to a cop in a coffee shop and picked up his breakfast tab. I do. Guess what. We know each other either by name or sight and it makes us all feel good. Respect! That's what I call establishing direct relationship. Live and Learn. As far as the Gardner family deserving a settlement? It's an affront to confront any officer. He would still be alive if he didn't play the part of a wise guy. While Guiliani and Bloomberg ran this city crime was pretty darn low. Our current mayor allows for criminals to run amok. I'm still trying to figure why the Central Park 5 Gang Bangers walked away with $40 million dollars while the female victim got nothing. Thank you Billy Boy DeBlasio. You paved the way for cashing them out while our previous mayors were having none of it. Our tax dollars working harder than ever to lay a road paved in gold for those convicted /overturned/ not sure if they did but the victim is sure hoodwink felons. So you just go ahead and disrespect police officers in your neighborhood while I respect them in mine and we'll see in the end who ends up feeling and being kept safer from pieces of garbage roaming the streets in the long run while our dimwit mayor steers this sinking ship of a city ......nuff said.
The NYPD knew good and got damn well that he was just selling cigarettes, and should’ve never been in his face or presence. This is the problem with the NYPD being how it is. This man died for no reason. The primary focus should be put on the ratchets who have a long rapsheet of criminal activity

The quality of life improved greatly under Giuliani. More importantly, however, Bloomberg continued Giuliani's policing policies.

Eric Garner should have never resisted and refused lawful police orders.

Opinion: I agree he was arrogant. You have to be when disciplining wayward New Yorkers.
But dirty? not where I lived during his administration.....if you crap where you sleep..that's a personal thing....

Crime continually wreaks out of city housing projects. The urinals of our great city.
It is time to invoke/enforce laws that forbids anyone with a criminal record the luxury
of stepping foot on any of NYCHA building scattered through out the 5 boroughs.

I could have followed that path as a young urchin but one swift kick in the arse and knot on the head by police enforcement
set me straight. Notice ( no confrontation was involved on my part....only compliance ). I am happy to tell the story.
Police are present in areas of crime. Plain and simple.
Point your anger at the failings of this current and useless mayor and his no frisk policy.
The sudden uptick in murderous crime in the minority community is a direct result of his incompetence
and proof that further policing is a necessity. If a people feels a victimization then lower the risks by
assimilating into society. Unfortunately an officer can't give a swift kick of common sense anymore
so young men grow up to cap each in their own neighborhood of lawlessness.
