Taxes - New Hampshire vs Oklahoma

I'll certainly give all of my new Okie friends something to think about regarding taxes in Oklahoma.

We have a three bedroom colonial house (New 2004) on three acres of land. My taxes on this property is $2400 per year. Not too bad but listen to this. Our utility bills are 36% higher here than in Oklahoma. We pay on average the following per month:

New Hampshire Oklahoma
Mortgage $1800 $1100 for the house we want
Health Ins. $1800 $750 for the same policy in Oklahoma through Assurant Health
Oil,gas $200 $40
Electric $175 $90
Real Estate tax The same or very close I think

Total $3975 $1980

So if you take these numbers alone the savings per month would be $1995.00!!!!!! As you can see, it would take a lot of income tax to absorb the savings. I highly doubt there will be $24000 of income tax per year......

Our real estate taxes pay for our school system here and that's it! So it is homeowners who really have to eat the cost. We moved from another New Hampshire town where the taxes on the same house was $9500 per year! So, you will never hear me complain about Oklahoma taxes!

Last year were were actually paying about $450 per month just on oil. Just for 100 gallons of oil we were paying $450 and this wouldn't even last a month.

Thanks again!

Mitch

that's what I pay for propane, except I only do it once a year, not once a month.

You mentioned hospitals and I do have an important question. Our four year old twin boys were three months early and weighed one pound each!! They were in the hospital for six months before we took them home and thank God they are just as perfect as can be!!!

Does Oklahoma have any neonatal units, for instance, the ability to care for newborns born at 24 weeks gestation?? I know my wife will want to know this little tidbit.

Thanks again for your help!

Mith
As fir neonatal units, they have a fine one in OkC (I forget the name but Oklahoma Baptist? comes to mind). My sister's daughter was born at 1 lb. and 5 oz 19 years ago, and she is now just fine because of the excellent care from that hospital.

Schousse,

Why is there any doubt??? Each town in NH sets their own tax rate. My particular town is at $9.20 per thousand. The town we moved from, Newmarket, NH, was at a staggering $48.00 per thousand. If you live in a town where there is a lot of commercial business then historically your property taxes will be lower and it is just the opposite for bedroom communities where there are more of a ratio of homes to businesses.

Believe me, I would love to hear that Oklahoma property tax rates are lower.

Mitch

Synopsis,

That is incredible that your sisters child is doing great. I passed this information right onto my wife and she is very relieved that there is such a good hospital nearby!

The next two pictures are of our boys at the hospital.

The last two pictures were of our boys right after delivery, 26 weeks and 3 days gestation.

Here is a picture of them a few days ago!!! Perfect little boys and we are very proud of them!

Why would you think health care in this state is any worse than where you live? the Indian Health Services here hire some of the best shamans and curandera's available.

I am not sure if the tax rates are lower, but the property values are. So I doubt that the taxes you will pay here are equal to what you are paying in NH.
