Pretty sure many Millenials do the exact same thing

Our 30 year old boy in NY is finally moving out of his parents house with the $3k he got from a talk show. He’s gonna move into an Airbnb until he finds suitable housing. I wonder how long until he blows through that and we start hearing from him again?

I guess Alex offered him a job too.

I'm a "millennial" and am moving to OC in about 2 weeks. Just got approved for a one bedroom apartment in Irvine for $1960/month. Seems like an INSANE amount of money to me, but the complex has what I want and the apartment itself is comfortable. But it seems insanely expensive to me still... basically $2 grand for a pretty standard one bedroom apartment. Come on now....

Soooooooooo, why not select a cheaper apartment in a less expensive market? Rent in Irvine is always very high, and typically about #2 in OC, right behind Newport Beach.

Irvine apartments are in demand because so many jobs are located there, and also due to their excellent school system.

If you will not be working in Irvine, and if you don't have kids, why pay the exorbitant rent?

The more you spend now on rent, the less you will have available for a future down payment on a home, if you ever decide to buy.

Do not know about Optimus, but many Millennial's simply want the goodies now and do not plan for the future. Party, enjoy the good life and maybe start saving someday... and have fun in the mean time.

its not that I want "the goodies" right now. Rather, I want to be located centrally. My job is in Newport Beach and Irvine is a reasonable commute away, it's clean, safe, and has everything one could need. I'm fortunate enough to have a job that can afford me to live there and STILL save money. But at the end of the day, I know that almost $2k a month for a one bedroom apartment is A LOT.

Good for you man. Make your money, and spend it how you want. It's your money, you don't have to explain yourself to anyone.
