After the coldest April since 1955 and a cold May to date, finally a nice sunny day in Baker County.

Pics from the Scenic Byway leading to Hells Canyon. Some of the things that make Northeast Oregon famous, horses, cattle, mountains and rivers:

I think in a couple of days, when we turn our calendars to June and daily highs are still in the 50's, everyone is going to really wake up and wonder what the heck is going on.

Oh, I think we've all noticed. Just read through the latest NOAA prediction for La Nina and it isn't expected to weaken until the end of June (they were predicting early June before) - meaning the unusually cool temps and rain will stick around for the next month.

Yup, I just heard this too. The Farmer's Almanac has also predicted a cool summer! I'm heading back east tomorrow for almost 2 weeks so hopefully I get my warm weather fix.

Uh huh. And this is happening ONLY because we don't have heat in our house. I predicted this MONTHS ago but people still think I'm nuts, go figure

Oh, and here's an update: Our landlord finally deigned to come back from "wintering" in AZ. My mother actually told him flat out that the extra electricity from the portable heaters was seriously hurting our family financially (no small children means you get JACK **** for aid) hoping he would come forward, do the right thing and let us remove the excess from the rent.

Of course he glossed over THIS little fact and immediately changed the subject. I WISH my mother would take him to court because I believe ANY judge would award her the extra money from the cost of the heaters. But she WONT because she is just too intimidated by anyone that is wealthy.

Not me. Quite frankly I think all slumlords should go DIAF.

About 1973 my roommate and I decided to organize a rock festival on the first day of Summer. We rented the stadium and Bush Pasture Park in Salem, got a dozen bands to play, and it was cold and windy. Nobody came. We broke even, but didn't make a nickel.

Since then, when people ask when it quits raining, I tell them the 4th of July. The Oregon Country Fair is always the weekend after the 4th, which statistically is the dryest weekend of the summer, and even then they have gotten rained on a couple of times.

I so agree with this! And it's bound to be for certain after the Rose Festival! Every year I hear someone suggest the Rose Festival be moved to August when we know it won't rain.
