My good news today -is a mixed blessing. My Grandfather passed away this morning at the age of 95 (would have been 96 in July). He had no quality of life anymore, blind, almost deaf, colostomy bag, beginnings of Alz. I know he is in a better place now, with grandmama. He was a heck of a man - and could be stubborn to a fault! He spoiled me rotten and I could never do any wrong in his eyes - ever! LOL He repeatedly told me over the years that I was his favorite grandchild, often within hearing of the other grandchildren - and when I would tell him to hush, they can hear you he would respond with "I don't care"! Gratefully, the others knew how he was and weren't offended. I will miss him. They don't make em like him anymore.
Location: Finally made it to Florida and lovin' every minute!

My grandfather was very special to me, too, Kats. Unfortunately, he passed away at 68. You are very lucky to have had him for so long. Your family is in my thoughts. Don't worry - Gramps will always be with you as mine is still with me. Hugs.
Kat- So sorry to hear about your grandfather but like you said it sounds like a mixed blessing in his case. I'm sure he will be happier now with your grandmother. And you will always have your special memories of him during his better days.
Thanks guys!!! It really is a blessing. I talked with mama tonight (and all through the day of course ) and we got to talking about Granddaddy - and I told mama that I can just see Granddaddy walking through those pearly gates, and Grandmamma meeting him at the entrance and saying"Well...What TOOK you so long???!!!???" We laughed and laughed (and cried some too)!
Sorry for your loss, Katsmeeyow, 95-that's pretty good!
Today I heard from my son in Kirkuk 3 times via email!!! Two were replies to other emails I'd sent, and one was right after I sent him one as soon as I had gotten one from him. For a minute there it was close to real time communication. He sounds like he's in remarkably good spirits which is so important to me, I can't put it into words.
Then I got a bunch of new flowers to plant too-which is a minor good new day by comparison.
My good news day is that the funeral for Granddaddy was really special, and we actually all enjoyed being together and laughing and sharing our memories of him! He sure did a lot in his lifetime! (BTW, he was actually born in 1914, so was 94 instead of 95, I had it wrong).
So much good news here. I am glad that there is in this troubling economic climate.
Kats~sorry for your loss, but I am happy that you have all the wonderful memories you do.
Amy~congrats on the bouncin' baby boy!
fuzzymystic~that is so wonderful!
