Yes, north 7th. St. and Highland. They hosted movies on one of the local channels on Friday or Saturday night. The theme song was some dreamy Henry Mancini type song and the opening shot was the blinking front turn signal of a new Pontiac Grand Prix. Hmmm, now I wonder which channel that was.

To be fair to the contributor who likes Dodge City or the New Dodge City, they hosted late night movies for many years. I'm thinking both of these things were in the early or mid 60's before cable tv.

On highland behind the Pontiac dealer was a restaurant called "The Islands". Expensive seafood etc.
I don't remember a big building at 19th Ave and Cactus. That's where 19th ave turned to go out around the mountain. On Cactus was a little store called moon valley market. As for Carpettime the guy had such a heavy German accent that it was hard to tell what he was saying. My brother thinks he said "von O five" E. Indian School. 105 would just be a block off of Central. I am not so sure about that.

How many people remember Comptons car wash on Central and Camelback? I worked there in the summer of 1968 if I remember right.

I remember Compton's car wash. My friend's parents always took their cars to Los Olivos at Third St. and McDowell. It's still there and I still go there. Hand wash and a good value. Heck of a nice lady owns and runs the place. I get an annual pass and get my Fusion Hybrid washed at least twice a week. Colletta is the owner's name and she a good citizen. I have always found that you find the best sunglasses and greeting cards at a car wash.

Well, now it turns into Thunderbird, going west. Going east, yes, it stops.

The Islands was at 4839 North 7th Street very close to the Sombrero Playhouse. I used to eat at the Islands for brunch a lot, they had a nice buffet. I would see the Goldwater family there. I would not let my kids see the cocktail menu because it had a lot of Polynesian girl nude drawings in it; I hear those menus now bring a lot of money. The outside decoration with their carved Tiki head tree carvings and grass awnings would never pass city codes today.

The Islands building originally was the Silver Spur nightclub/restaurant but it went broke.

I might add that 7th Street used to be just about the best shopping street in Phoenix all the way from downtown to Glendale Ave. but after it was widened businesses lost their diagonal parking in front and people wouldn't stop anymore; I guess that is progress.

I also used to eat at Storey's Hickory House at 4622 N. 7th Street; they had the best hickory smoked chicken in Phoenix. The Amsterdam House on Central was also a nice place to eat.

Valley Dodge still stands today on the NE corner of 43rd Ave & Glendale.
I bought my first car there 1965 Corvair Monza for $500.
Its got the most massive American flag I have ever seen. Enormous! Go see it.
Mecham Pontiac was down the road on Glendale (auto row) around 48 ave.
All those car lots are empty now. Just crappy little lots run by foreigners selling junk. Back in the 60 & 70's Glendale Ave was lined with top notch new car lots.
