I think the frustration from the other side comes from the fact that a lot of public money flows into Homewood. It may not look it, but it does, either directly in the form of welfare payments, daycare subsidies, free school lunches, CDBG, etc., or indirectly, in the fact that students who aren't poor are penalized in the lottery for magnet schools in Pittsburgh. It's human nature -- we can both understand how difficult is is for a community like Homewood, and at the same time think, "Jeez, I'm trying to support my own family while watching a lot of my net tax dollars flow into areas like Homewood -- how much more can you expect of me?!"

Let me ask you -- if a genie could make it magically appear, what one building/service/etc. do you think would most improve standard of living in the area? A rec center? More beat cops? A spray park? Etc.

Thank you Caroline.. To answer your question I would most definetly ask for a rec center.

How do you figure? Is it because people are so judgmental and only base their theories on just a glance at a neighborhood?

Wow, are you supposed to be funny? If you don't have anything POSITIVE to contribute why even say anything?

If you need a good laugh and have about two hours to spare, Honest Bob is the guy's comments to read (check out the Rendell/Port Authority thread.)
