She is wrong. Neither narrative is likely correct and the SYG law governs how the case will be decided.
If, for instance, Zimmerman walked up to Martin and grabbed him by the collar Zimmerman becomes an aggressor and has no right to self defense.
One might go for a trial so that a jury could determine what the facts actually are. But that does not happen unless the self defense is proven false beyond a reasonable doubt. Again an impact of the SYG law.
Eye-witness testimony is actually known to be quite unreliable.
As far as bruising- have you ever seen a fresh trauma? Ever seen someone come directly from the street fist fight to a hospital- bruising can take a few hours, but if you've very light, you can notice it very early. Swelling is pretty much immediate. Of course this is all shades of grey. However, if you're supposedly beaten to within an inch of your life, you'd expect a bit more. It just doesn't fit.
That said, Zimmerman may have 'felt' like his life was in danger. So that's why the jury gets involved.
But if he claims that the case can't get to a jury until self defense is put to rest...
The actual bruises or wounds really have no great value. What Zimmerman felt is also of little value. It is what a reasonable person in such a circumstance would have felt.
I would think any reasonable person would feel threatened if knocked down and his or her head is banged on the sidewalk a couple of times.
This past tuesday, I was in a rock concert with a fierce mosh pit, as was my wife.
Wifey-poo actually got into the thick of the action, and took an elbow to the face as well as other minor injuries.
She bruised up quickly.
in that environment and state of mind, yes she would bruise up quickly. hot environment, blood pressure at max, if she was shot, she would explode with a fountain of blood.
now, try that in a cold, rainy environment where the body is trying to conserve itself. most likely in survival mode. bruising will take longer. swelling will also take much longer.

You're right. You can feel threatened.
However, is there any burden of proof to use deadly force?
Was Zimmerman going to get killed or just get his butt kicked (this is assuming Trayvon did in fact have the upper hand in the fight however)?

One simple question- Are you a doctor? Are you a nurse? Are you a paramedic?
Trevons parents are on FOX & Geraldo now. YOu should watch
In the wake of the outcry over his killing, "Trayvon Martin" merchandise has been selling through the roof: T-shirts, buttons, pins, CDs, DVDs, and more. Now Trayvon's mother, Sybrina Martin, has filed papers to trademark two phrases based on her sons name: "I Am Trayvon" and "Justice for Trayvon."
The parents are due to appear at a special Capitol Hill forum today, hosted by several Democrats on the House judiciary committee. The pols are expected to call for a repeal of Florida's controversial "Stand Your Ground" gun amnesty law, which some believe contributed to Trayvon's killing.
But it's not just politicians who see an opportunity amid the national firestorm.
The "Trayvon" branding spree has swept across hundreds of online merchandise sites. Yesterday, Florida rapper Plies debuted a tribute song, "We Are Trayvon Martin," and began selling T-shirts embossed with George Zimmerman's face and the words "P*SSY ASS CRACKER."
let the race wars begin, i guess.
the whole tragedy is wrong on so many levels, with monumental stupidity all around, and people are still dying today.
why in miami there was a multiple killing at a funeral over a jumper and then the body being "disrespected" by some gang members, but that isn't drawing too much attention.

That's just ugly.
The Zimmerman case is polarizing, lots of rapt attention on both sides.
I find it more than a bit fascinating that his black friend, singular, admits to not actually being a close friend of Zimmerman but a friend of one of Zimmerman's family and that he has quit his job so he can appear on camera to defend Zimmerman.
A former Orlando-area TV reporter who this week became the de-facto voice for George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who shot and killed Trayvon Martin, now seems to be backing away from that apparently self-assumed role.
But George could be a character. In middle school, a black boy named Anthony Woodson stumbled over a chair while walking into a classroom, prompting a student he did not know to joke: “Do you know how to walk, or did you trip over your lip?”
From that jarring remark, a friendship was born. Mr. Woodson said that he knew the student, George Zimmerman, meant nothing racist, mostly because of the friends sitting with him. “Two other black kids, an Asian kid and a Hispanic,” recalled Mr. Woodson, 30, now a pastry chef in Virginia. His new, bilingual friend seemed comfortable in a multicultural world.
and evidently mentored black kids.
Quote:
Stephanie also recalled a party in early December to celebrate Mr. Zimmerman’s graduation from Seminole State College (though he still needed a few more credits to receive his associate’s degree). He shared his hope to be a judge someday with a small gathering that included two black teenagers whom, she was later told by Mrs. Zimmerman, George was mentoring.
When I think of the difference that an unemployed, non-degreed man of 28 who lived with his parents could've made in my life. It's almost a poetic as something Ralph Ellison would have written.
