Doesn't matter when the traditional "dinner" or whatever is.
Stores should be forced to close on Easter, Thanksgiving & Christmas Day, and reduced hours on other holidays.
Yes, we need a law for mandating them being closed, and pay their employees for being off.
I just read that 7 out of 10 people in the US partook in the shopping event last year that started at midnight. This shows that retail stores should be open and is supported by the general population. It will be interesting to get the numbers for this year. The shoppers want to shop, who are we to stop them? Retail employees want to provide the best shopping experience for shoppers. So it's a win/win.
And it does matter what Thanksgiving is. If you're not celebrating Thanksgiving in a traditional manner, you might as well celebrate it on another day. If you're not going to be true to the holiday, you're not going to be true to the holiday.
I have only done black Friday once. That one time was enough for me. I start my Christmas shopping around August, so I never have to rush, my spending is budgeted throughout the year, and I can take advantage of sales. I only need stocking stuffers at this point.
People complain when there is no work, then complain harder when they have to work. Yep, that's the USA!
Nobody complains why we work. We complain why stores are opening on a major holiday and forced employees to stay away from their traditional family and friends holiday, which occurs only 1-3 times a year.
Now I make more money but don't have health insurance - like I did at Wally World - but that is OK - and I would rather pay Obama's fine than be forced into government approved health insurance under ObamaCare.
Nobody is making anyone work for WalMart - they do so because they choose to show up each day.
If they are "hostile" because of poor work conditions - then they should be seeking other employment while working at WalMart - rather than throwing a tantrum and refusing to clock in.
I don't know when you worked at Walmart, but few employees have health care there these days.

They will have until 8pm to be with family. Do they need the money or not?
"stores should be FORCED to be closed on Easter"...wth?
Trolling, I get it now. Sorry I took you a serious fool instead of comic relief..
Why not? Thats the way its been for all these years.
Tradition, culture, nah not in the US.
Were being white washed so damn fast into the most uninteresting country in the world. Between lack of any tradition, culture, and bunch of big box homes with giant square buildings to maximize profit and eliminate architecture.

Isn't that complaining against your passion and goals in your career? You're in a career where you want to give buyers the best shopping experience. If they want to shop on a holiday, you have to still keep your passion and goal in mind.
