Most of our poor urban neighborhoods (like 7th,8th,9th wards in your nations Capital) and many poor rural areas don't have decent supermarkets (NE or SE Washington doesn't even have a WallyMart). So buying expensive fresh food or expensive gourmet foods is an academic exercise only. Good eating is whats on the shelf at your local bodega or 7-11. A bottle of Coke, bag of Fritos and an microwaveable instant Kraft Mac and Cheese, or Bean Burrito or Nissan Shrimp and Noodles, and don't forget the Hostess Twinkee foir desert makes for a darn good supper! And once a week you can splurge and hit the Mckey D's or Taco Bell for for some real dining and you supersize it of course.
If I were fortunate enough to live in a rural area, I would get off my fat *** and grow most of my own food to include cows and pigs. As far as those living in the hood, get a job and move out of the hood. Lots of people who live in my city used to live in Detroit, but they wised-up and moved out to the suburbs where the Wally Marts are.
$793/month for a family of 5 is not supplemental. That's way more than I spend for my family of 5, and I try to buy organic/minimally sprayed produce, nice meats, and no added hormone milk. And I shop at a nice store. I spend about $100 a week on groceries, we would literally double our budget if we were receiving food stamps.
I shop sales and get my produce from a CSA. We have a nice income too, so we also fall in the 50+ of taxpayers who actually pay federal income tax. Nice to know I'm spending my time saving my money so the government can send someone else twice as much to "supplement" their budget.
They are probably spending my tax dollars on crap food so I can pay for them to go to the doctor too.
We give tons of food and money to food banks. I genuinely want to help truly poor people who need help. But I am so, so, so sick of working and saving money to feed losers like the 26 year old bomber.
Ah, but the middle class majority won't let the poor enjoy the cost savings that come with that lifestyle. for example, housing standards are set at middle class standards, so poor people who want rock bottom housing can't find it because it's been regulated out of existence.
They have the right the same as anyone else. Here is the key.... GET A JOB and pay for it themselves.
Truth is that many Republicans have a very low opinion of Blacks
uh hum, it sounds like blacks have a low opinion of self, low self esteem. Democrats believe you can't make it without their help.
Democrats need people to be poor in order to garner votes. The day they solve the poverty issue is the day they all get voted out of office, so obviously that is not the goal. Democrats have been running black communities for the past 40+ years and turned those communities into economic and social wastelands with their failed socialist policies. Over $9 trillion has been spent since a “war on poverty” was declared, yet, poverty rates are higher than ever.
