I'm really concerned about my nephew who is bi-racial and how he will adopt to his surroundings when he gets older. But I understand where you are coming from.
I can understand your concern for your nephew. Things tend to get harder the older one gets. Society doesn't look at a person the same way in childhood as in adulthood.
I know I had to deal with the shock the older I got, particularly in my adolescent years. I started seeing that my view of myself isn't necessarily what society would view me. I've had to learn(the hard way) that sometimes it doesn't matter if you appear "non-hood rat". Sometimes a Black person is going to catch crap no matter what. I learned that when I got followed around in a bookstore(and I was wearing a suit). I learned it from my father's experiences getting pulled over. He got followed around by the police, while with his children and on the way to church. It didn't matter that he is actually a professional, and was dressed in his Sunday best. All a particular police officer saw was his skin color.
ill cede the white conservative talking point that the reason why many of these young blacks are going around killing each other is because of the breakdown of the family. that is a fair and reasonable point.
the problem is when i throw back rising crime rates among whites and illegitamcy rates rising among whites, white conservatives dismiss that, oh, no, you made it up, blah blah blah.
the truth is 30 percent of white kids dont have a dad, which imo is a bigger problem then 73 percent of black kids not having a dad.
whites, specifically white conservatives want to dismiss those numbers though.
Okay then, something more current, like the BTK killer.
Sure you can find a sick serial killer among any race , how about this one Grim Sleeper - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
He got away for years because like his victims he was AA and the police didn't delve as far as they should have, but then again that's a topic for another thread.
It's amazing that this went on for that many years in a big city like Los Angeles.
